How many of you has had to replace brake calipers?

I had my front left brake caliper lock up on me recently. So when I ordered the the new (used) caliper I also oredered some hawk brake pads all the way around. I got the pads first and started to put them on. I had trouble putting on the rear left pads. With a closer look I found out that one is locking up too. WTF! Is it common for that to happen. On the rear one I can see that there is a small tear in the seal that caused the rust. On the front the seal just got worn I think. But I only have 80000 on it and it a 96. I hat spending money on OEM parts. I wish a could justify the cost of a big brake kit.

The PO of my car had a bear of a time getting all the brakes on my car into decent working shape. But better him than me! And now I have 4 rebuildable calipers sitting in a box in case something goes wrong.

I had to replace my pass. rears at like 60k. Only knew when I went to change pads and the inside was worn uneven and completely through. then I couldn't adjust them out. I read that the rears are common to lock-up.

I bought Beast with 220K on the clock. I almost put her in a ditch one day so I decided it was time for new tires (they were dry rotted). Since I was doing the tires I figured it would be time for new brake pads, brake lines, etc. When I went to change the pads this is what my slider pins looked like (I snapped one in half pulling it out). It is a miracle I didn't die in a fiery crash because there was no way my brakes were working (i.e. one pad looked new and the other was almost completely gone - both on the same wheel):

I had a 30K set of calipers from my totalled Miata so I threw them on there. BTW, my thoughs on Big Brake kits are this - instead of putting bigger brakes on, just drop some weight off the car and make your current brakes work better!

The parts department at Ford dealerships should have the same kick ass thick as shit caliper slide lube/dielectric grease that the techs use. Its outstanding stuff unlike most the junk at the autoparts store.

Found the part number D7AZ-19A331-A
