How much air through the FMIC when using the BEGi style scooper?
 

I'm getting crazy with the fiberglass outside and want to put all 3 heat exchangers in one chamber (not 36, the dirty version). However, I'm worried about the FMIC not working well afterward.

I don't know the answer to your question, but if you need a BEGi scooper let me know.

After ripping the first one off, I decided to make the next one out of plastic...like a vette.

I'm starting to think that I couldn't even give this thing away.

Hustler -

If the area of the opening of the scooper is EQGT one third the frontal area of your heat exchanger(s) then you will have sufficient airflow input, provided you have the ability to maintain lower pressure behind the exchanger(s).

Feeding all exchangers from the same source shouldn't be an issue. However, if you have the opportunity to subdivide the flow to each exchanger within the chamber you might get better results...

PS - Remember, after working with the fiberglass, wash your hands well before having a little "personal time"...

I understand the relationship with surface are a pressure differential, but what about kicking up air between the heat exhangers... That certainly won't help get air through the fmic.

Do you plan to put the oil cooler in front of the intercooler?

hehe maybe they should start making it out of 1/4" steel and mount it to the frame so at least it protects something :giggle:

Tough sell on lowered cars. I'm happy with mine but too many here have ripped them off or damaged them.

What do you people do with these cars? Seriously?!? I have had my scooper on for 4 years, 35K miles, with only one problem. It ate a shovel once, but survived. My car is also lowered 2". Never had a problem with speed bumps, even the legendary ones in Houston. It's been all over Texas and the east coast. Do have a problem with steep driveways, but nothing the Miata would not have a problem with anyway... I don't get it.

As long as the air will not escape over the top, why not? It should move more air thru there.

I won't deal with sheet metal right next to a $500 intercooler, $300 radiator, $200 oil cooler if I go off track or drop a wheel.

I want to make an aluminium box for my heat exchangers v-mount style.

^^ i was two cars behind that, looked like he was going right into the wall. A scooper would have been torn off in that particular situation for sure.

wow...good save hustler...I coulda used those skills last Friday. Of course I also could have used a Miata and it never would have happened.


I was thinking about a scooper as well, but I think I'm going the route of the AIM Tuning car instead. My R-pack lip is already busted about 2" in from where they cut upwards...so I might as well.

I have a 99 stock 10th edition. It has a stock splitter out front. Coming in and out of a driveway it hits, a begi scooper that goes even lower would have been toasted. Let say i drop the front another inch or whatever.. dont even go there...

Normal driveway here has about 3" drop

Most of our driveways are like that as the city has laws that state this is the driveway you HAVE TO HAVE. You cannot have the smooth curb.

That is savington in the vid, but i expect to see the grass at least once per day. I ahve better pics of that aim car at home, but it may ne overkill. Good ducting and extraction go a very long way

The scooper is not designed for off road use. I doubt much on the Miata is. But, unless you are damaging your front bumper, the scooper is not likely to eat it. It sits behind the front bumper.
