Hub-Centric Rings Whos usin' them?
 

You guys with aftermarket wheels, whos using hub-centric rings and who isnt.. and who doesnt have a clue what im talkn about?

ive been drivin a year without um, and im startin to think i need um

I had them on my street wheels but not on my racing wheels. No difference. There should be no load applied to them (after all most are plastic), the only advantage I can see is it helps center the wheel. But if you are careful installing you wheels it shouldn't be an issue, or at least it hasn't been with me.

Have run on track without them, no problems. Just take your time and let the lugs center the wheel properly.

We ran Rotas without them for 3 seasons on our 99 (3 hour endurance races) and never had issues. I have seen the plastic ones melt on cars at track events. :eek: I did run them on my 90 with the last set of wheels. They were aluminum and a bitch to get off from the corrosion around the hub center.

+1 I use self-centering lug nuts on my winter wheels without hub centric rings. My snow tires are only rated to 99mph... worked fine up to 120.

I've run with and without on various wheels, I noticed that on extended track sessions without them the lugs sometimes will get looser by about 5-10ftlbs.

but of course i take them off for the OEm 15's when I track the car

I've run them on some rotas before and without them also. No difference at all. Actually the plastic ones ended up breaking, at least 2 of them had cracked so I guess it really doesn't matter either way.

I work with them all the time. I would advise anyone with custom wheels to have them, they are cheap and can really help out. Any wheels 17"+ should have them for sure. They are usually on the heavy side, and are very touchy when it comes to being centered.

You don't have to have them, as long as your car doesn't shake your fine. I've solved many vibration problems just by installing them, but most were on 17-24" wheels for obvious reasons. (I LOVE! installing lightweight small diameter wheels because they never come back because of vibrations.)
