HVAC underdash removal
hey guys. 2morro im pulling out my dash to figure out an hvac probelm im having
My blower is good, ive tested it and it runs nicely, but almost no air blows out from the vents. im assuming there is a block somewhere b4 it hits the main heaterbox. anyway... im wondering what replaces the AC box under the dash on cars without AC. im looking to remove my ac soon too... Its the middle box on the pass. side... http://rmtconsultants.com/tallen/Das...CF0042_JPG.jpg |
Peek under the glovebox and check the tubing that comes from the blower to the HVAC unit in the middle of the dash. It has a triangle type end to it and sometimes it can slip off. Not sure, but that might cause little to no air flow out the vents. Worth a shot to check that before tearing the dash apart.
Edit: NM.....Just read the part about you having A/C. Vash- |
NA01-61-150A. Duct, Air.
http://img33.picoodle.com/img/img33/...em_a51748f.gif I got mine from Rosenthal. It's not on their website, just call them and they'll hook you up. 1-800-347-3493 Tell 'em Diego sent you. You'll also want a couple of those little pins that hold it on. |
You can pull out the guts of the box and plug the holes for the drain tube and one other I think. Not ideal, but free. I just called Tommy at Finishline/Rosenthal about a month ago for that part and he didn't know what the fuck I was talking about.

sweet. i love how fast and knowledgeable you guys are
any clue as to what would block it? (joe i saw ur idea and edit, thanks). my guess is something is blocked in the AC box. weird thing is there's no smell or noise even with the fan at full blast. |
old thread revival- do the a/c controls function normally after a/c is removed? When i remove the parts under the hood and under the dash, replace the box w/ this tube piece, will ambient air pass through the vents when a/c is activated?
**or could some one point me to a thread where this stuff's covered? (likely a huge obvious one I've somehow missed) |
Ive removed all AC electronics along with gutting the box under the dash. It all works fine. Just yank the condensor, compressor, relays, and the ducting under the dash. it all works fine. Pushing the button doesnt do anything.

I'm trying to decide to what extent I want to gut my interior when the time comes. Not sure if you can make an LS1 with a/c fit and function without too much work. Sure is hot and humid in the SE. I guess it will have to be a fall, winter and spring car only. So that "tube" replaces all of the a/c junk and just directs air from the blower to the vents, bypassing the a/c shit? Or did you remove the blower too and just use fresh air?

. Basicly the HVAC goes like this (right to left starting in the pass. kick pannel area. Blower Fan ..... AC box...... main box/heatercore You just take out the AC box (simple, just 2 clamps) ... take it apart, gut the crap out, and then close off the holes. Now the air passes strait thru instead of thru the AC crap. OR if u want to spend money and time finding one... you get the non AC ducting which just replaces the AC box. |
I removed the coil, and duct taped over the holes.I made a couple of sets of aluminum plugs for the holes in the firewall, one for me and a set if some one else wanted to come and pick them up.

You can. Its a PITA but I'm in the process of making it happen. I REFUSE to go without AC, and would HATE the car in the summer if I had to go without it. |
