i finally bought something from FM!

After taking up for them on principal for so long i finally baught something from them, HG, headbolts timming belt, Water pump. The price wasnt horrible we'll see if they are still nice to me now that they have my money wish me luck. :gay:

F20turbo 01-04-2007 03:58 PM

I bought my wiseco's, Engine gasket kit, and 1.8 swap kit from them. Honestly they are top notch as far as that goes. Its in their dyno numbers where they screw you. You get a 9psi Hydra Setup on your 99. Their dyno says 240-250whp. Then you dyno and find its more like 210-220whp.

Trent 01-04-2007 04:14 PM

I bought that greddy turbo heatshield, and i got a Christmas card. :)

bripab007 01-04-2007 05:36 PM

So they give quasi-bogus dyno numbers...210-220rwhp from 9PSI with excellent support is certainly worth the same as it would be from BEGi, right?

(Andy, not trying to pick on you, but I am trying to pick apart the vast majority of complaints I see about FM...for the most part, those complaints are baloney)

adbradley 01-04-2007 06:11 PM

I would have to say that i perfer FM over AM!:bowrofl:

TwoScoopsofHooah 01-04-2007 08:59 PM

I've heard nothing but good stuff bout em. I'll get my gasket kit from em.

Ben 01-04-2007 09:07 PM

My car dons some small items from FM (msd, mbc, heatshield). The 2 times I placed an order with them, they shipped my product the same day.

I agree, they are a good company and there are a lot of retarded complaints about them. But when someone thinks they are getting 250whp and then its really 30whp LESS, thats false advertising;)

kotomile 01-05-2007 12:21 PM

Only FM thing on my car is the clutch switch bypass..

no reason really for not getting more from them but their prices are generally not budget friendly.

Yes, that would be false advertising, but I still have yet to be convinced the correction factor on their dyno is that far off.

magnamx-5 01-05-2007 12:54 PM

Hey andy on the + side you would be making like 400whp on there dyno. :gay: 400whp on stock ecu.

chuckerants 01-05-2007 02:10 PM

Now that they are using a non-standard dyno (that Swedish thing?), WTH are they going to advertise that?

Mustang vs Dynojet Numbers eh?

dc2696 01-05-2007 03:24 PM

I have bought afew things from them, no complaints here thats for sure!

bripab007 01-05-2007 03:28 PM

Yeah, they use a Rototest dyno: http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/rototest.asp

It's kinda fun poking around Rototest's website, as they have a metric shit-ton of dyno graphs of stock cars.

Show me someone that can make 250whp on a stock 1.8L w/ just a FM kit and a GT2560R @ 12psi. On 91 octane pump.

Mymiataflys 01-05-2007 08:55 PM

I have a dyno sheet from Aug. 2002 when I dynoed my fairly new BEGI 4.2 system, as it was called then. at sea level in florence south carolina, probaly 90 degrees that day. I was usning one of the first Bipes ACU's at the time along with the pierburgh/AFPR, 1.6L injectors, T28/25 sleeve bearing turbo , enthuza single turbo exhaust, cat delete pipe. It made 183hp, & 157 torque. dynojet . don't know correction factor but it was about 100 ft above sea level in columbia S.C. I think they advertised them at the time at 175 HP. they probaly still have the dynos on their website. it did spool late had a plateau from 3K to 4K rpm then peak torque at 4700 rpm. intercooled. 1.6

Michael

Fritch 01-05-2007 09:05 PM

yeah I don't know how far off their dyno claims are, they claim the Voodoo I does 170rwhp at 6psi with their turbo exhaust and I did 175rwhp at 6psi with the stock midpipe/cat/and a retarded borla muffler. Seems pretty spot on with that kit at least.

Mymiataflys 01-05-2007 09:27 PM

oh yeah I forgot that was at 8 psi

Would have been great if they could have put the package in a drop box or something instead of me having to wait till they shipped it this weekend..

Do you think yours was the only box that didn't get shipped out in time for the X-mas closing? I can't imagine it was, otherwise they'd have thrown it in the drop box.

More likely, they had tons of stuff that didn't get out before X-mas, but, when you're a company looking to take some time off, you have to draw the line somewhere and stop working, otherwise you'll never have any vacation.

Ben 01-06-2007 11:34 AM

I'd rather have the UPS man pick up the package than put it in a drop box. That way UPS is liable as soon as it leaves FM's hands. Who's liable for a package sitting in a drop box?

I scheduled a pick up for UPS to pick up a defective projector and send it back to the manufacturer. This projector had a cost of nearly $7k. The projector was scanned by the driver, but was not scanned at the driver's home base. UPS "lost" it (which probably had nothing to do with the fact that the cardboard box had "HD Projector" on it). Because I had a record of pick up, they cut a check for the value of the projector.

Liability.

Plus what Brian said. You ask a guy who's about to leave for vacation for a favor, and he'll do it after vacation.

magnamx-5 01-06-2007 11:49 AM

true but my stuff should be here by thursday. I hope

Right, and what I was getting at is: how many other people were wanting "their box dropped in the mail right before vacation?"

Gotta stop somewhere.

F20turbo 01-06-2007 01:54 PM

I still want someone to make 250whp on a GT2650R @ 12psi on a stock 1.8L. Luckydvl I think it was made 245whp or so on 14psi.

Kelly 01-06-2007 03:20 PM

With a full 3" and some water I think it would be quite doable.

92yella 01-06-2007 04:24 PM

I have been to the shop and got a tour from Bill himself. I bought my turbo dual exhaust and mid pipe from them, my heat shield and keiths book.
FM may be a little $$$, But they are true to the miata, I trust them.

What did Jason Cuadra make with the Tec II and th GT2554? Something like 230 at 9 psi? Makes 250 on a GT2560 certainly in the realm. I'll find out soon enough. Had the car delivered today. I should have it strapped to the dyno and the Motec tuning done in two weeks. FM II on an '01 with the GT2560 and a Motec.

i got shifter boot from them - cheapset place. my oil since it was the cheapest place to get it too. and am looking to get some stuff of their 99 1th ae wreck. I'm currently very impressed with the service. whatever I want they help me with (stupid lil things like changing stuff on the car), they ship out the same day, if they say they will call back they do. Their service is great!

btw. anyone have a passenger side side skirt for a 10th ae miata?? cheap

sorry for the off-topic

What octane gas you got up there Frank, 93 ? Are you planning on running 12psi or 10psi ? Should be interesting

magnamx-5 01-07-2007 09:18 AM

he has a motec so he could run 20 psi if he wanted to just needs injectors big enough i agree this will be interesting.

y8s 01-07-2007 10:48 AM

Jason did his 230-240 on california pump gas but with a tec3. I forget if he made those numbers at 9 or 10 psi but he later dialed it back for safety. the car drove real nice. that turbo spooled about as fast as you could mash the gas in his car.

i drove it both with the stock 00 motor and the GTX low comp bottom end and it was just as sweet with both.

fmowry 01-07-2007 11:33 AM

We have 93 here in MD but I think it's gotten worse in the last few years. More additives or something. Winter gas isn't helping. Still worlds better than the crap in Cali. I'll start with the 12 psi 93 map the previous owner gave me and go from there.

Mymiataflys 01-07-2007 02:49 PM

Is your car the one that was on ebay, originally from California I believe. It was for sale very recently. it was also mentioned on the powerlist.

Thanks,

:)

I got a smoking deal but what comes around goes around. I sold my '90 with 3k miles on a new built motor, Big brakes, new paint, GAB wheels, full suspension, rollbar, FMII kit, race radiator for probably half of what I had into it.

I was thoroughly impressed when I took possession of the new car. Driveability is great. He did a good job with the driveability tune on the Motec. I have to work on the cold start because it was about 35 degrees here this morning and the car took a while to kick over. Robbi probably never had to start the car in temps below 60 degrees. The body and interior are almost perfect. It's running WG boost now as he set it that way for potential test drives. I have a map for 12 psi and 93 octane. Waiting to get my new laptop to get everything loaded and tuning. Then I'll hit the dyno and see if my friend can squeeze some more out of it. He's very experienced with AEM/Haltech/EMU so I'm sure the Motec will be just anothe ECU to him. He did have a Motec on his race DSM for a while, but got sponsor money from AEM and started carrying AEMs at his shop so he switched the Motec out.

I'll post when I jack up the boost with impressions.

wow, looking forward to seeing how much power you can eek out of it;)

fmowry 01-09-2007 02:49 PM

Me too. It's sortof a turd right now at wastegate boost but my Forester XT is very fast in a straight line and my turbo '90 was healthy too so I'm a bit spoiled. I should have the laptop this week and maybe I'll at least get to load his other maps and log some with MD 93 octane and see how the A/F looks. Hopefully the warm weather we're having here in MD will hold out. I'm more motivated to do this if it's top down weather.

Hey Brian, just wondering why you're sticking up for FM with so much gusto?
Do you work for them?

Fm

I ordered FM front sway bar and front tie rod bushings. The Fm sway bar did a descent job of slowing down the roll on the front of the car and with the new poly bushings, its a little tighter up front.

No, in fact, I think I've only ordered a couple of relatively low-priced items from them (BEGi AFPR back in the day...maybe something else, I can't recall).

I wouldn't say that I "stick up for them," however, I would say I always try to show the other side of the story when you guys start up the inevitable FM vs. BEGi battles around here. As I've said several times in the past, had I $5,000 to spare, I'd buy a BEGi kit over an FM kit.

That said, both companies appear to offer good customer service and equally reliable/efficient/powerful turbo setups. I have nothing against either.

magnamx-5 01-27-2007 09:46 AM

FM products are awsome atleast there oem replacement stuff great customer service and fast shipping a pleasure to do business with, Moss has treated me worse as has Goodwin racing but they only diddled me with shipping delays. Still there is only one mazda vendor to my knowledge that has earned a reputation of bad among the Miata community, i wont mention names as i feel it is more of a orginization and overextension problem like another company experienced but worse for the customers on the most part anyway. oh well.

VRTSid 01-27-2007 10:14 PM

I havent bought anything turbo related from FM but I have purchased some other stuff, and they were super helpful and answered questions that werent even related to the sale. good customer service if nothing else
