Well, since I couldn't find any Work Equip 01s or 03s (for a decent price), I settled for some 002s.

Traded my Volks for these and $300.

Had to raise it about 1/2" :td:

Anyone wanna sell me some Yellows and GC's?

:)

Also...

Best way to roll the rear fenders?...sans using a fender roller, haha.

cjernigan 01-05-2008 11:14 PM

Baseball bat. Maybe wrap it in a towel. Heat the fender lip with a heat gun without bubbling the paint. Get someone to push on the trunk or sit on it while you roll it back and forth. Do it slowly and it won't crack the paint, hopefully.

rappadan 01-05-2008 11:16 PM

hey i've got my SM suspension for sale. Bilstein shocks with GC coils and eibach springs. Can you say adjustability?!?!?!? $401 shipped

Wanna help when I get back up to Cookeville? :P

Wow...wanna hold on to that for a few weeks so I can buy it when I get my next paycheck?

Bryce 01-05-2008 11:21 PM

Those wheels look like they'll get curb rash if you look at them wrong.

Other than that though, nice!

sup gurl 01-05-2008 11:25 PM

Yep, gonna have to be extra careful with these!

cjernigan 01-05-2008 11:37 PM

Sure I don't mind helping. I should be able to help whenever, just let me know.
Warning: Never done it personally, just read about it.

What size tires are those?

bryantaylor 01-05-2008 11:38 PM

you traded volks for some sportmax's? WTF!?!?!?

I've done it on my Mazda 3 when it was dumped, but didn't use a heat gun...do you have one by chance?

Tires are really random...195/55 F, 205/50 R...the tires are brand new, so I really don't want to spend the money getting four new 195/50s.

...right?

Plus I really needed the cash.

ZOMG JDM VOLKS ARE WORTH $1000000000000000

scfreshy 01-06-2008 02:21 AM

I like the curb feelers.
Look hella sexy on the car. Would be even better with the fenders rolled.
Post better pictures when it's all done.

Don't skip the heat gun!!! OMG!

I helped a friend once, WITH a roller (which was a HUGE help, made things come out nice) on a DSM. Didn't heat the first fender, paint cracked like mad. The rest came out good. Go slow, lots of passes. Maybe with miata light guage metal it will be easier - but easier to bust the paint, too.

OMG, why I posted pics of this, I'll never know. But notice the missing paint on the driver's front....

cjernigan 01-06-2008 04:01 AM

Nope I don't own a heatgun. Depending on where you're at now. Look up harbor freight. Pretty sure they have a store around nashville or Mt Juliet. Something like that anyway. I'm sure the gun wouldn't be more than $20.

thesnowboarder 01-06-2008 04:35 PM

wow you must rub when you sit in the car with that 0 offset, i like the look, but wouldnt want to have to deal with rubbing issues personally.

miatamania 01-06-2008 04:55 PM

Those volks were fucking ugly as hell....-1 for blue wheels on a red car...

I'd support the trade

I didn't drive around like that, I raised it up 1/2".

Nice! There is one about 20 minutes from me with two guns that are $9.99

Yeah the blue wasn't doing it for me, but I did like the style of the wheels. The offset was too high anyway.

AbeFM 01-06-2008 08:15 PM

I liked the blue. At least it's a little different

the wheel was pretty sick..just blue and a red NA don't play well together.

Savington 01-07-2008 01:26 AM

Nice. Now sell them and get yourself a set of 6ULs. ;)

sup gurl 01-07-2008 01:38 AM

pfffft!

Next will be Equip 01, Equip 03, or Borbet Type-A.

That susp should work well.

pschmidt 01-08-2008 09:36 AM

I have an Eastwood fender roller and heatgun that I will rent out cheap. $40 for a week plus a deposit in case I never see it again.

Here's the tool:

rollin904 01-09-2008 08:47 PM

i just bought myself some equip 03's, however it's gonna be up to 90 days before i see them. hope i can fit them ><

Zabac 01-09-2008 10:12 PM

you need wider rubber, looks good, just put some 225's on that and no taller than 45-50 the tires on there now are too narrow

That's sarcasm right? I don't think people have had much luck getting wider rubber than 195 in the front without flares or raising the car a good deal.

Trent 01-09-2008 10:57 PM

The Volks are expensive because they are good wheels. The 002's are made of powdered metal, and have fake plastic rivets along the rim to make them look like a multi-piece wheel. Someone on here has a picture of the wheel's failure mode (which is catastrophic). Additionally, they are heavy. They look good, and are obviously the look you were going for, but I found it hard to ignore the negatives when i was wheel shopping a while back.

I like the low offset look, but i could never justify running so narrow a tire. Particularly if boost enters the equation.

AbeFM 01-10-2008 12:00 AM

Yeah - my Kosies were super cheap (~110/wheel), 15x7 (lots of good tires available, wide with some sidewall) and weigh *11 LBS*.

What's not to like? If you're worried about how they look, drive naked, it'll keep the eyes off of them

Haha :bigtu:

I wouldn't mind getting some K1's in a low offset, if they make them.
