I hate electrical issues
So I went and bought a '94 Miata and started the path of fixing things on it. I'm stuck at the moment trying to figure out what is blowing a fuse. I discovered the issue when I first drove it at night and the gauge cluster wouldn't light up. I crawled under the dash today to find some crazy wiring thing going on and a blown fuse. There is a wire tapped into the WHT/BLU wire powering the TAIL fuse from the light relay that goes to a fuse holder (the blown fuse) then splits off and one wire splices into the dimmer and the other goes to the RED/BLK wire at the turn signal which was cut and butt connected. The RED/BLK wire coming off the TAIL fuse is cut and connected to a wire going to the passenger footwell. Another RED/BLK connection. If I turn on the lights, the rear lights work, but the front markers and gauge cluster do not illuminate. I put a new fuse in the holder and that blew immediately. I didn't see any light from anywhere, so I'm guessing there's a ground somewhere. The PO said it used to work and he figured it was just a fuse, but I trust him like I trust a thief. My guess is the wire in the footwell is for the PCM since according to the wiring diagrams, it's supposed to connect to the PCM with a RED/BLK wire. Either that or it's tail lights since those still work. I guess I could pull the fuse and find out.
