I have both and don't know which one to keep or sell. The cage is awesome but maybe over kill for auto-x and track days. I like the style of the double hoop and it meets SCCA requirements for track days. What do you guys think and why?

Full cages are generally considered too dangerous for a street car. Especially in cars as small as ours. Your unprotected head is more likely to hit it in an accident.

However, after looking at the double hoop arrangement you have pictured. I would not feel at all safe with that unless I was wearing a helmet.

If this is a street car, and you indeed have the full cage in your posession, you could cut off the halo and down bar portion and install the rest of the cage. Just an option to think about.

HD padding always, no matter what you get... I bought the BF MAxx hoops for my NB - because I lust to be like Doppelganger.

are those loops for real? those look deadly.

I must admit they are cool looking, but they do scare me.

+1 Looks like fabricator-assisted suicide.

I am going to be putting in a race seat and harness in the next month. So I am not to worried about my head hitting the bars.

Braineack 03-11-2013 12:46 PM

how will you be able to move your racing seats back far enough?

Rallas 03-11-2013 01:08 PM

How tall are you? My dad had these Boss Frog hoops in his 99 for a while, but we had to swap it for a HDHC M2 because the hoops are just too low. I don't remember the exact height difference, but at just over 6 foot I could not get his head under the roll bar with factory seats and could barely get his head with helmet on under the broomstick line, forget an additional 2" or so for "safe" head room (this was with kirkey mounted on floor).

The double hoop looks very nice and even though it meets the SCCA rollbar strength requirements I wouldn't recommend using it. Even for me at 5'7" the upper part of the roll hoop is way to close to my head on the street. It was possible for me to roll my head on the headrest and hit the rollbar. Tith the HDHC I have in all three of our family Miatae now I can't hit my head on the rollbar while seated unless I come out of my seat.

Oh, one more problem with the dual hoop. That diagonal brace coming off of the top center of each hoop is a b!tch and interferes with any and all seats. I had to trim and bend the Kirkey headrest to get the seat in and back as far as possible. Again, if you are a midget like me, this might not be a problem.

Relte- Yea I am 6' 240lbs, guessing the cage is the way to go then. My dad is 5'8 and thinking of getting a new miata. May just wait and give it to him. Thanks for the info.

full cage all the way !

I`d recommend installing some padding, like the pic shown, though

Curious, do you have the hardtop version or standard version of the HDHC?

Rudes333 03-14-2013 05:58 PM

Hard top version of the cage. I think they only make the cage to be able to fit a hardtop

Rallas 03-20-2013 02:00 PM

We all have the non hard top versions.
