Ideal oil weight for miata?
Hi since I'm new to miatas I have done an oil change yet. What's a good weight to run now that it's gonna be becoming warmer?

It probably depends on the health of you engine. My HLAs make lots of noise when at operating temperature. Mine seems to do best with 5w40 or 5w50 (if I can find it).

i thought the general consensus was rotella t6 full synthetic was best for normal duty and track day stuff. great performance and low cost. off topic. a buddy at work was telling me the head in his rendevous needed to be rebuilt. it was making noise. i road in it an said it ws lfters. i asked if it was worse when cold. he said yes. i say, go to walmart get the above mentioned oil. drive for 1k miles change it with same stuff. tell me if it sounds different. 3 days later his wife calls and said it doesnt make noise anymor, even when cold in morning. cool story bro, i know. update: It also got rid of the HLA noise in my 1.6 |
mine works best with 10w30. I've tried 5w30 but it's too noisy and burns oil on startup with the forged pistons that i have.

I use Mobil1 0W40. So far my engine hasn't blown :ugh2:

Another M1 0w40 user here. It's arguably the best oil available under the Mobil1 name.

5w-40 rotella syn ftw

Dino Rotella for a street car until you determine which mileage gives you enough fuel shear to warrant the oil change and see if it's worth running the synthetic.
