Default shaved head NA

I just purchased a 1.8l complete head for really cheap and i want to run N/A for a while while i gather parts for my forced induction build. I'm looking to shave the head a little bit to increase the compression ratio. what is an acceptable amount to take off? Is there anything else i should do while the head is off?

Thanks

decking the head may be contrary to your FI goals. what year block do you have? if it's been refreshed, what CR pistons? If you have a 94 with 8.8:1 pistons, I could see it. Maybe.

don't get me wrong, i love higher compression + less boost over lower compression + more boost, but a lot has to do with my intended purpose, confidence in engime management and state of tune, and driving style

sorry i didn't make it clear. I'm going to use a gtx head when i do my FI engine build.(so i'm going to switch head when i go FI) but for now i have an extra head laying around and want to go NA. I have a 92 escort gt. All that's done to it is timing advanced 16 degrees and a cold air intake with rx7 vaf.

I think you're missing the point of his statement - you can spend lots for not much gain..... and if you're going to spend a couple of hundred getting atmo head work done, then perhaps you're better off doing simple stuff like intake, filter, plugs or some cheap extractors, or better still, spend it on brakes, suspension, radiator, etc, that will actually benefit you when you go turbo.

Just seems like a waste to get a whole bunch of head work done when you're only gonna pull that head off when you boost it, and may not have a chance in hell of getting your money back for your shaved head on Ebay.........
