I'm digging that side stripe. Reminds me of my dad's MGB.

18psi 08-23-2011 11:40 PM

Looks clean and tasteful. I'd daily the shit out of it too

Those pictures are terrible though. Holy shit......

I want Garage Vary tail lights so damn bad.... -.-

That thing is super clean. I am also really diggin' the side stripe and the wheels. I'm 99% sure those are the new Rota K7's. It gives me hope for my heap, lol.

I have to say, the thing that makes the interior for me is the stock stereo. I don't care how good the quality is or how many functions it has, ALL aftermarket stereos look like ass, and stick out half an inch.

Block of plates with hidden or no stereos are second best, but stick out like an amputated thumb.

Very tastefully done.

matthewdesigns 08-24-2011 12:12 AM

That white over red looks delish.

mgeoffriau 08-24-2011 12:13 AM

Older Blaupunkt decks had a really clean, OEM look to them. Squared off chicklet buttons in all black, with subdued displays. Harder to find now.

I am digging the side stripes.

Good luck finding one of the ultra-rare green ones.

thirdgen 08-24-2011 12:34 AM

I like that carpeted console, the stripe, and the wheels. I'm not really an NA fan, but I would drive that thing all day long.

The lite buttons are obnoxious, I'd still prefer the stock unit, although this is one of the better ones I've seen. They're still lite on the stock unit, but it's not noticeable during the day.

TurboTim 08-24-2011 08:00 AM

Damn, ok. +(whatev) on the OEM head unit and that carpeted console.

Braineack 08-24-2011 08:16 AM

Chrome!!!!!!!!! :puke:

100% agreed.

I agree. My old cassette deck has seen better days, but I can't find anything aftermarket that isn't silver, has lots of silly lights (or worse, and LCD display) so it fits in with the black interior.

Too many baby-boomer types that design things based on "ohhh, shiny!" Dammit, LEDs are old hat, stop putting tham on every damn thing!

mk2tmr2 is a member here. I'll notify him of this lovefest.

And thanks for the link on the window switches! I'll have another batch ready to go in a month or so.

mk2tmr2 08-24-2011 10:44 PM

Thanks for the heads' up, Adam. And thanks for the love, everyone...especially you, hustler.

The car has a little ways to go, yet. The stereo is going to be changed out in about a month or so...but I don't think anyone will be disappointed with the result. I won't spill the beans until the deal is done. There are a few more interior details that I want to spruce up - not the least of which will be a set of Revlimiter gauge faces.

When it comes time to start turning wrenches under the hood, you are likely to find me a lot more active on this site. My NB was a MP62 car...this one is either going all motor/IRTB or some type of turbo system done right.

viperormiata 08-24-2011 10:49 PM

Can't wait to see what the engine plans are. I think a nice OEM looking FM/Begi kit would be boss. Nothing too standout-ish.

Also, if I may trouble you some, what are the wheels on this lovely machine? My earlier guess were rota k7's.

mk2tmr2 08-24-2011 11:00 PM

They are, indeed, K7's. 15x9 +36 with 225/45-15 RS3's.

Laur3ns 08-25-2011 01:01 AM

Those rear lights are nice, in the clubroadster riser catalogue.

Damn, ok (again). On my list now.

EDIT: I can't find Rota K7's on Rota's site. Vendor specific I guess.

i lust for that car too. although, i'm not sure i would want a daily miata again. i guess it could be a weekend car, and my track car would be just that, track only. love the color combo, my friend with the v8 corolla had the s2k version of the car in these pics. it was awesome. nice lip, duckbill spoiler, oem hardtop, and powdercoated white rp-01's.

You could install a merc comand 2.0 unit like I did in my previous miata

Try 18racing.com

shlammed 08-29-2011 03:38 PM

or ebay.

mk2tmr2 08-29-2011 03:40 PM

^^ true.

Though, I like to support 18racing as they have done a bit to support the Miata community over the years. (eg. custom special orders on Miata specific sizes, etc.) Plus they're really nice to work with.

Not very "stock" looking, but certainly "retro."

I bet you could have it re-finished in black to fit in better, too. :)

How many miles before the tube starts producing microphonics?

concealer404 08-31-2011 09:58 AM

I really have no idea. :P

If you don't like the tube, the "VX-5500" variant gives you the same looks, just without the tube buffer stage. :)

mgeoffriau 08-31-2011 10:01 AM

I like the analog level needles, but introducing vacuum tubes into car audio just seems like a solution looking for a problem. And I say that as someone who understands the attraction to tube amps and audio (I don't have any tube home audio stuff, but I do have a Mesa-Boogie DC-3). Solid-state audio is perfect for mobile use.

For what it's worth, i haven't heard of any major issues with this headunit. But as someone who runs tubes in their home 2-channel setup, i'd be hesitant to give it a shot, myself. :)

Mayday! 09-01-2011 12:07 PM

I have to say I really like that!

Something along the lines of that car is what I have always wanted to achieve. Subtle and subdued, but still noticeably different from stock, and bad ass! Unfortunately I always fall FAR FAR short of a final finish that looks that OE. I'm about to redo mine, so maybe I can take my time this go around, and actually make it look decent.

acitydweller 09-21-2011 10:28 AM

gorgeous retro styling in and out... nice job!

Installed some new low pro headlights. I, for one, am more painfully in love with the car for them.

Hell no. That Eunos nose emblem wasn't cheap! :P

NA6C-Guy 09-24-2011 10:26 PM

Link to headlight swap?

Not sure what you're asking for. I didn't do a step-by-step photojournal of the swap. It was really straightforward. Remove factory headlight buckets, install aftermarket headlight buckets. The Bellof Low Profile kit is plug and play.
