Intercooler Question

I was driving my car when one of the clamps on my intercooler pipes popped off. This caused all the air from the turbo to be shot into the atmosphere. I wasn't able to fix it immediately and drove home. This was done with a megasquirted car. The afrs seemed to be ok for the activity of the car. So I assumd it was just acting like a na car. Would this hurt the turbo or the car? I would think not , but am curious for if this happens again.

Someone smarter then me can chime in but I think there’s two things to think about. To the engine, it’s just acting as a N/A car like you mentioned. No damage could get done there. To the turbo though, it’s still trying to hit whatever boost target you have set. So unless you have the wastegate wired open, your turbo is going to try and spin up to make whatever you’re targeting. This in my mind could overspin the turbo and damage some internal stuff there.

As long as after you noticed the piping popped you babied it home I think you’d be safe. Check for shaft play on the turbo to be sure. If it happens again next time I’d try and wire the gate open.

By having a hose come off the engine would have been running like an N/A car.
But totally unfiltered.

So it probably sucked some dust and shit into the engine.

As long as you weren't driving thought a sandstorm, or for days, like that it's probably fine.

It can overspeed the turbo, as mentioned above.
