Interest iin 1.8 kit?

I am considering building my kit for production.. Do you think there would be a market for a lower cost 1.8 kit?

I am thinking somewhere in the range of 2000 - 2500 for a basic kit without engine management..

- Stainless Log Style Turbo Manifold
- 16g Turbocharger
- 38mm External Wastegate
- Stainless Intercooler Piping
- 18x6x2.5 Intercooler with Brackets
- Stainless Downpipe with O2 Bungs
- Braided Oil Supply Line and all Supply Fittings
- Oil return components (flange, barb, gaskets, line, etc)
- 4 ply Silicon Couplers and Clamps

I could also offer a non intercooler kit for like 1800ish..

Thoughts? Comments?

I bet you could sell some. Why the external gate though?

magnamx-5 04-02-2007 12:06 AM

I like it if we get our 96 up and running i might try to hit U up on it. I considered askin about this months ago, but wasnt sure you where interested in miatas anymore.

External wastegate

I couldn't clock the outlet of the turbo in the direction I wanted to and keep the internal actuator.. I could possibly relocate the turbo on the manifold for a different placement.

This would be a personal project for me..

I could def' offer you a discount on this stuff, to use your car for i/c piping mockup..

Over or under/around the radiator IC?
Have any pictures of an example mani?

nester 04-02-2007 12:52 AM

My current piping goes around/under..

Piping would of course be bent without welds

Mani looks good, alot like what I hope to end up with when I build mine.
So you know of a company that will bend pipe to your specs I take it, or do you have this capability yourself?

Oscar 04-02-2007 07:19 AM

I would certainly be interested :)
can't be bothered to scrounge for loose parts to build a turbo setup, so I almost wished I had an 1.6 just so there would be a complete kit available..

MX_Eva 04-02-2007 02:08 PM

Well even with welds it looks slick. Looks like you could get a pretty nice market for that. I mean it looks good to me.

magnamx-5 04-02-2007 02:33 PM

well oscar then nesters offer is for you. I dont see a FMIC in my future but it is nice to know i have someone with DSM turbo experience around

What size 16G?

SloS13 04-02-2007 08:11 PM

your intercooler piping is on the rag.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say evo III 16g, since thats what he sells with all his other kits.

nester 04-02-2007 11:33 PM

I just need a NA to mockup piping.. we could do a non-intercooled setup for sure..

Big 16g, although a 14b or a small 16g would be a 100% bolt in option, but would likely be more expensive..

Example a big 16g retails for ~449, small 16g retails for ~545, and I think a 14b is about the same...

tylerdurden 04-03-2007 08:54 AM

I seem to recall the small 16G is about the same size as a T3S60, so it seems better suited than the EVO or big 16G which seems to be more efficient at higher boost on slightly bigger motors than we have.

nester 04-03-2007 09:24 AM

Which is fine, they can have the small 16g, they just have to pay extra. :)

It used to be a different conversation, the small 16g used to be cheaper than the big.. so due to how close the compressors are, people would get the small to save a little money..

The difference between the two is like splitting hairs, but hey, I will sell anyone anything they want..

Absolutely. The Greddy is a low-cost option for 1.6ers, so I think it's only natural to presume that the owners of 1.8s would snatch up a cheap, readily available 1.8 kit, especially if it had some headroom.

Braineack 04-03-2007 09:37 AM

sounds like a steal!

magnamx-5 04-03-2007 09:43 AM

I can get mine up there for fitment as soon as i figure out my clutch issues and confirm that my oil leak is fixed. Dont know why but this seems to be the year of installs that didnt go quite perfect.
