Intermittent bogging
 

Over the last week my NB has developed an intermittent bogging problem. When cruising on the highway all of a sudden it's like the car goes into a sort of a limp mode, another way to describe it is it feels like something grabbed hold of the rear of the car and is holding me back. To get it to clear up I find that if I shut off the ignition all the way for about 10 seconds its better when I restart. All mods are in my sig. I did just replace the timing belt a few weeks ago but I can't see how it could be related.

TPS maybe? My car does something somewhat similar at very low speeds. Im thinking maybe the TPS reads 0 for a split second. The car definitely goes lean at the same time.

Isn't the NB notorious for failed coils..causing these sort of symptoms?

almost sounds like a O2 working, then not working

Since this is a new car and you don't know if the CEL is working check the codes.

My 97 had a weird bogging problem, because of a oily crank sensor. I know the NBs have the same sensor. Same exactly feeling you are talking about like someone was just holding it back, and it was always random. Its possible you bumped it while working on the car. There is a measured distance it is suppose to be from the trigger wheel.

Could be a fuel pressure problem. Can you tap a gauge into your fuel rail set-up and run it up to the windshield to watch it when the fault happens?

That would be my suggestion too. Check all the wires to the CAS, an exposed wire or a short would cause this exact symptom.

I don't think it would be a coil pack. Those will usually cause a misfire at idle too. (on an NB)

Check the air filter for crap and/or debris.

i bet the air filter has peanut butter in it.

I did notice today that at idle the car does seem to have a random miss. The tack holds steady buy I can feel the vibrations in the car change. I did get concerned that it might stall but it didnt. Maybe it is a coil?

Its funny you mention that, cause I remembered the thread you made about that car bogging down and that was the 1st thing I checked.

I had the same symptoms on my NA turns out i had a bad fuel pump/clogged fuel pump screen

Does it occur in the same RPM range while driving it? If you can duplicate it over and over, chances are it is a CAS wire or sensor problem. This makes the car feel like you just lost all power and throttle control, but the car did not stall. Feels like it should though.

If it is intermittent and no pattern, it would most likely be the coil pack. A bad coil pack will make it miss all over the RPM Range. An easy way to check is move the coil pack to the other plugs and see if the misfire code switches cylinders. My car's coil pack went dead. It started missing every once in a while at idle. It slowly got worse. Changed coils and the misfire code moved from cylinder 4 to 2.
