Got a MSM lastnight!

gospeed81 01-21-2009 09:56 AM

Dude! Friggin Awesome!

I was actually sad to see a DIYer parting out their car...now I'm happy again.

Boost is much better than anti-depressants.

Braineack 01-21-2009 10:05 AM

hey so at least you got boost!

Did you sell your MS I built? Cause you can make it work for your new MSM....

RotorNutFD3S 01-21-2009 10:33 AM

Nice!!! What are the plans for this one? :)

Rafa 01-21-2009 10:37 AM

Way to go Jared!!!!!!!!!!

Paul did on evank's car.

leatherface24 01-21-2009 11:22 AM

I did sell the ms Scott :( it's ok though cause I'm not going for more than 180 rwhp and I know I can get that with just a few bolt on upgrades. I ordered a bigger I.C. and then I'll get the fm intake kit, downpipe, mid pipe, 02 signal mod, do the tps mod and that's it really.

leatherface24 01-21-2009 11:26 AM

On a side note, it was very bittersweet last night driving the car home. No more than 10 minutes into driving, I hit a cone that was lying in the middle of the highway. Smashed my front lip on the drivers side. I ended up waiting over and hour and a half to sort everything with the contractors doing the roadwork and the fhp . I now have to go through the whole insurance mess now to get it fixed.

m2cupcar 01-21-2009 11:34 AM

how long 'til you start cuttin' on it?

leatherface24 01-21-2009 11:49 AM

Not going to. It's too pretty LOL

hustler 01-21-2009 11:51 AM

my sister calls her msm "the buick" because its heavy, she thinks its slow, and lots of body roll, lol. She's going to do real suspension and brakes soon. Brother/Sister track day > *.trackday. First we rape them, then we spit on them.

Ah, well, there's been more than one. Just making sure which one you were asking about.

However, an N/A Miata vs. a MazdaSpeed Miata, you guess which one is faster. :)

Also, go make an intro thread so we know who you are.

How about if we start a bet?

I say 2 months before you turn up the boost and start messing with it :giggle:

Do you really want to see pics of Hustler's sister with her manly biceps, flabby abs, wife beater, greased hair, steel toe boots and wallet on a chain?!? She and Hustler go out trolling for the same chicks. With the track day mentioned there seems to be more competition between them than just who picks up the prettiest girls!

Actually it would be cool to have a sister into cars too. There aren't a lot of women showing up at track days around here but the few that do generally drive well.

Congrats. Your VR looks clean. My VR is covered in snow and dirt. :(

Happy to share my maps if you ever get a good exhaust, big injectors, and Megasquirt. :)

First thing you should do is rip out the windblocker / rear speakers. The windblocker doesn't do anything and the rear speakers aren't stereo. So basically it is all just extra weight.

Doppelgänger 01-21-2009 05:18 PM

Nice choice! I think VR has got to be the best looking red I have ever seen... esp. when it's freshly waxed.

With a dp, exhaust, intercooler, tb elbow, intake piping and a boost controller you can make over 200rwhp. Anything after that and you'll need some engine management. I've seen several Exedes on mazda-speed for like $700 w/harness. Or just do a MS. The stock turbo is "ok" for ~200rwhp, but the god damn ECU is the fun killer and forces boost threshhold seen really high and somewhat laggy/peaky. Another route, albeit more expensive, is to toss the turbo/manifold and get any other 1.8L manifold and a T25. You could have jumped on the fixable manifold I just sold :giggle:

Get some H&R "race" springs from TireRack too, it'll have a nice ride height and the spring rates are better. I bet you'll eventually find the stock rear gear annoying too...tome for a 3.9 or 3.6 :D

Newbsauce 01-21-2009 05:47 PM

In for pics of Hustler's sister...

..oh and grats on the MSM

leatherface24 01-21-2009 08:38 PM

thanks for the advice guys. I already ordered a bigger intercooler lol...the rest should be ordered next week. You guys know me too well. Its scary actually.

congrats on the msm. i am now waiting to see what the first DIY body is going to be

thesnowboarder 01-23-2009 12:38 PM

so since you couldn't turbo your car you had to go out and buy one already turboed? Doesn't makes sense to me, either way congrats and love the red.

leatherface24 01-23-2009 01:44 PM

so if you had a choice, your telling me you wouldnt get an MSM? ^

The vast majority of MSM owners are legally retarded.

Fuck you too.:)...anywho, if you feel the need to stray towards the 240-250 rwhp mark, it is cheaper to do a turbo upgrade from boost planet than swap out the exiting turbo.

chriscar 01-29-2009 11:26 PM

Congrats on the new ride. That color is STUNNING on a sunny day, pictures cannot do it justice.

The vast majority of miata owners are retarded. I wouldn't limit it to just MSM folks.

I also find irony in this sweeping generalization because when I made similar assertions in a political thread you insisted I was the scum of the earth for holding the opinion I did.

they also seem to get butt-hurt the worst when steam-rolled by another miata.

18psi 01-29-2009 11:50 PM

Its so fucking irritating how na folks think they are gods in the miata world. That nb's and msm's are shit...... That somehow smaller displacement and older car is completely superior to bigger displacement newer car. You guys have way more parts available, are a bit lighter, etc etc...thats great and an advantage for you....but c'mon.
cant we all just get along? FUCK!!!

gospeed81 01-29-2009 11:57 PM

I really would rather have an NB, but can't afford one.

Then again they are butt ugly, obd2, heavy, yada yada j/k

Seriously though, y8s car just looks plain badass, like it cost 6 times its original MSRP.

My car will never look that good, and probably never be that fast without a similar setup (why swap in a complete drivetrain from a later model?).

On topic. I loved the Mazda ads for the MSM when it first came out. A car company that wasn't afraid to show us all exactly what we'd be doing when we first broke it in: burning some friggin' rubber. Those kind of things leave a lasting impression, and I look forward to OP's build.

Yep, that's right, I said build.

heavy and obd2 are a big pain in the ass...big enough to not want one. I also don't like the nb door-cards because I'm a man and can't fit my leg between the door and steering wheel because I'm so jacked and pumped.

Basically, they look better, that's about it. However, when you're at the track its easy to spot the NBs so you know which guys sit down to make #1. Now, NAs with 99 motors and 6-speeds, they usually make #1 on people, because we're into watersports and not afraid of a little golden nectar straight from the bottle, amirite?

gospeed81 01-30-2009 12:30 AM

lmfao

I have honestly thought this out thoroughly. I plan on slapping this turbo onto my car.

When I graduate I am going to do a complete DIY build on a 1.8L motor. This motor will come from my wife's Miata (an NB) with an LS1 swap with an automatic(what she wants, don't ask).

That's about the only use I have for an NB honestly.

The MSMs look good on paper next to other stock cars, until you realize you can do it better yourself.

EDIT: Wife doesn't currently own NB, but will.

thesnowboarder 01-30-2009 01:07 AM

Quick story about MSMs vs NAs and the rivalry between the two.

I was at Thunderhill for a track event/passing school last year. Im in the Intermediate group because its only my 5th track event. This msm owner, in the "advance" group decided he wanted to pass me on the only straight he could out run me on. ( due to the power, i was stock at the time) So i allow him to pass assuming he was faster than myself. 2 turns into the lap i catch up to him and am on his tail and have to slow down a bit. Turn 9, which is a long uphill blind left turn cresting over mid apex and slopes downhill to the right.

This msm owner didnt brake.. I thought to myself that maybe he knows something that i dont and continued to hold my line. I braked, turned in got back on the throttle and headed directly towards the sideways msm. The look on his face when he came off track was the best.

Grumble.

When I drove an NA, non-car people either said to me, "What a piece of crap" or "It's so cute!" .... now in the MSM, non-car people say to me, "Is that a Porsche?" :D

Kidding aside, I think the NA v. NB debate was best summarized many years ago by this: "NA is a better Miata, NB is a better car, MSM is a better NB."

Savington 01-30-2009 01:57 AM

Jesus, you people get butthurt at the drop of a used condom. I said MOST. I've met a few exceptions, ironically most of whom have converted to FM2 or similar. Most Miata owners are pretty bad, but MSM owners are particularly heinous. I think I spent 5 minutes at the MSM forums and wanted to end it all.

:werd: It's really just a matter of preference. I personally hate NA's. I think they are butt ass ugly. But I don't see any reason to rag on people that like them, just because I don't. I never even considered buying a miata until I saw the MSM. And the whole lighter aurgument...the MSM weighs in at a whopping 2500 pounds, yes, heavier than an NA, but hardly heavy. Soft suspension? do stock NA's have soft suspensions? From what I can tell, damn near everyone with a miata of any generation upgrades the suspension. Look at the dyno sheets on BEGIs page, the MSMs with bolt ons makes quit a bit more power than the miatas retrofitted with a turbo in most cases (I didn't say all, just most) Bottom line, people have different preferences on miatas, I'm hard pressed to say any generation miata is a bad car, or inferior, just different and some are better suited for individual needs than others.

leatherface24 01-30-2009 11:42 AM

Considering that I have a passion for all miatas, I dont care which one im driving just so as long im driving one. Having owned, and in this order, an 02 NB, turbo'd 95 rpkg, 97 m edition, 97 NA almost turbo'd and then back to NA, my 04 MSM, and have been living vicariously off of my fathers prht NC, Ive seen the merits of all of them.

In all honesty, as far as NA's and NB's go, Ill always say that the NA is a better Miata and the NB is a better car. Ive felt that thats the fairest and IMO truest observation that I can make. Guess what, in time, ill be buying another NA but this time a 1.6. Why, because my NB is too purty in my eyes to track and destroy lol

DontPassTheFence 01-30-2009 01:28 PM
