One week. I've spent ONE ******* WEEK trying to change my goddamn brakes, and so far I only have the front drivers side done.

I'm trying to get the passenger side caliper off, and I think that ****** is welded in. Every day I go out and soak it in PB blaster, then hit it with the impact wrench... Nothing. Good 'ol fashioned socket, ratchet, and grunting... Nothing.

Yes, I'm sure I'm turning it the right way.. lol

Please, does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm nearing the breaking point of paying a shop to change my brakes for me because of this one goddamn bolt. I don't have a blowtorch, but if the only option left is to turn the caliper red and try it then... Well I guess that's what has to be done.

Go get yourself a cheap propane or mapp torch. heat is the only thing that is going to get that off at this point.

Congrats! Heat always works well.

Another trick, is to get a 3lb mini sledge and use it to hammer down on the open end of the wrench, you would be surprised how well it works.

Also, anyone know how necessary the brake pad shims are? The ones that were on the old pads were shot, and no auto parts store carried them around here so I went without. Seems to be quite a bit of noise coming from the front brakes now...

Sounds like you bought the cheapest pads you could get. They normally don't come with shims but they do make tons of noise and create massive amounts of brake dust. It's win all the way.

Most run without shims. Did you bed in the brakes?

I remember living in Ohio and dealing with iron oxide. Sucks.

$40 mapp kit saved me when I was doing a timing belt once. Little bottle works wonders.
