I've hit a few cones in my day, but....

Driving home last night from hanging out, about midnight, decided to take the long way home and enjoy the car a bit. Nothing stupid, just a few curves at fairly safe but enjoyable speeds feeling out the new suspension a bit (and it feels goOOooOOd!). That's all over (a total of a 5 minute detour maybe) and I'm heading on home. I'm carrying a little more speed that I should be maybe, but it's a straight road, noone around. About 65-70mph. I had about .5 sec to think 'Oh crap what's that' and then SMACK! Looked like a cone laying over. Stopped the car, swung it around, and accessed the damage:

Picked up the pieces:

Punk kids more than likely-- cones were right in the middle of the lane as I came over the crest of a small hill. Got sucked up in the wheel well and popped out some body filler that I didn't know was there ;).

Oh well... guess the car is broken in for the Solo season-- never had anything like this happen there ;). Of course it was midnight in Feb when this happened cones were cold and hard as rocks.....

Sorry to see that. What's worse is when shit like that happens while one is enjoying the car's feel.

BTW, what new suspension were you testing? Care to share?

Regards,

Rafa

I had cone dents on my old, and my current miata from autox. sucks doesnt it

Koni RACE shocks with 700 front 375 rear springs on GC coilovers.
RB Tubular front sway bar.

I haven't tracked the new setup yet- But I think I'm going to love it. Feels hardly harsher than the worn out stock stuff on the street really, no comfort compromise at all. But when you put it in a corner it just wants to hang in there like nobody's business.... I'm looking forward to getting this car out and stretching it's legs a bit. The track day Monday was canceled due to lack of participation but I'll have to get another going soon.

Could have fallen off a truck or where they sanding up straight like someone placed them?

I was following a local power company truck once and it dropped two cones in front of me i plowed them over with my '77 Mercury Monarch about the only thing it did to my car was buff off a little of the rust.

Glad to hear you didn't over react and make it worse.

dam at leasts you didnt get a alot of damage iv seen a bumper riped in half by hitting a cone.

After the first drift event this year(jan 20) by the end of the day there were a lot of cones on the course that were broken just like the one you posted.

That could be... I assumed it was kids as I used to be a punk kid myself about 15 years ago, and it was right out in front of a subdivision on the main road.

I don't think I hit the smaller one-- someone else must have, but I smacked the crap out of the big one. It was laying over forward.

Very nice Jerry!

Sorry to hear about the damage. Your car was sooo clean.

Savington 02-10-2008 03:45 AM

Dammit, Jerry. Your car was cherry. :(

Let me know how you like the lower rear spring rate. My car with the 450s in the rear pushed a little on street tires, but with the NT-01s it is just impeccable. You still using a stock rear sway bar?

Mine eats them and then spits them back out.

(last run, I was having fun - and despite how bad it looks, it's nothing like the s2000 driver ahead of me that couldn't keep his on the damn course...)

When I read the topic of this thread I was thinking "shouldn't this be in off-topic" then I realised it was about cars. Sorry to hear about the damage Jerry!

I ran over a cone that tore off my entire lip spoiler. That alone wouldn't have been bad except for the fact the lip spoiler was wet installed (bondo'ed and painted on).

Saml01 02-10-2008 04:43 PM

Now you have to hire a paint shop to paint a bandage over that. That would look sweet.

Sweet, someone else running 700 in the front. I am thinking of moving the rears up from 325 to 400. I am running the Koni Sports though, which will be going off to get revalved soon.

Yep-- still running the stock rear bar. Haven't had a chance to really push things yet so I'll give you an update when I do.
