JDM NB2 Information
Why is there a black hole on the internet about these mx-5's?
Anyway... I've been experimenting with a JDM engine and ECU in my US NB2 for a few months. It's fine... but quirky. A lot of it is outlined on this post I've made on miata.net -> https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthrea...15#post8631515 Basically I'm trying to really just figure out why is the BP6D-18-881C (or maybe "B" Or "D" too.. but I can't confirm those are installed in manual cars) ECU in "automatic transmission mode" when it clearly is attached to and compatible with manual transmission miata's? If you look around for "JDM engines" for an NB2, you will find some with the engine, transmission, and ecu all attached to each other... and it's almost always that specific ECU. Goal is to figure out why and getting diagrams or pin-outs or SOMETHING for a JDM NB2 miata would be ideal... I really want to get rid of this black hole that we have for information on these cars. If someone is in Japan and see's this -- that would be a good start... you have an advantage and can probably more easily get the information we need than I can.. Yes I know I can "just get a MS" for my car. These ECU's are so inexpensive though compared to a MS.. and they do not require an immobilizer or anything so they work... they even just plug in but we do not know what exactly is different besides just "the circuitry is different" So any and all help would be greatly appreciated towards this project, and would probably benefit the community a great deal, and who knows what else we will learn along the way? |
I'll be shocked if anyone cares.
.....Just get an MS :D |

.....Just get an MS :D idk mine is a daily... Id rather have the car operating as Mazda intended it to operate. Plus $1200 for a MS that works with an NB2 is a lot of money and not to mention you still have to pay someone to tune it if you want it as well done as possible if you're like me and do not trust yourself. So I'm much more interested in learning about the JDM cars and just getting my car running the way Mazda originally intended the JDM cars to run. |
I believe the only differences were:
-Flat top manifold -No EGR -Return fuel system -10.5:1 compression ratio -7500rpm limit |

JDM NB2 VVT has the same cams as the USDM motor. The only motors to get bigger intake cams were the BP5As in 99-00.

Apparently bridging pins 4AC AND 4Z on US? ECU's will fix the P1601 error. See here: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/18-engine-transmission/75049-need-help-p1601-code.html#/topics/75049
So what I need to know is what two pins perform the same function as those two pins on the JDM car We know it's possible for it to be different because there's those other two pins (2O and ?(I forget)) where one or the other has the fuel pump and if you move a JDM ecu to a US car you have to bridge those two... And well it is that easy because one of those is just a "do nothing pin" on the US car |
