Jrsc M45 Snout Seal Replacement
 

Anyone have any experience of changing out a snout seal on a M45?

Looks like i will be changing one out in the future, just looking for anyone with a similar experience or antwhere i can find more info on going about changing the seal.

no clue, but it cant be that difficult. did you try to find an exploded view of one?

12 psi?!? that *might* be the issue. impressive though!

For sure an Exploded drawwing would be the biz- i dont forsee it being a big job.

just a quick search, i found an exploded view of an m62 and m90 here. it should be similar.

i just installed mine last weekend. it's a change after being turbo'd.

i just installed the base system, i see about 6.5psi. i have the underlay still to install, but i'm just getting used to this config for now. so far i like the driveability around town. i drove the PCH last night with the wife. i still get a big idle dip when i goto neutral.

i removed the link ecu to have it diagnosed. i have a water injection system to install later. i hope to see 8-10 psi. i think with the link, overlay, w/i, and the head work i had done, i can get a reliable 170-180 rwhp. i am planning to get the trackdog belt tensioner.

i would like to see a contingency of s/c owners over here. not to compete against turbo owners, but to learn from each other as we modify our configurations.

snout seal? The one behind the pulley mounting? Or are you talkin about the part where you split the nose off from the rest of the body to expose the coupler?

Which blower? Your M45, or the Mp62?

Its a JRSC M45, and its the seal just behind the pulley,when the blower was on the bench i felt a wee bit of play in the nose pulley so i cured that by replacing the "coupler"- but sods law the seal behind the pulley is "weeping" only ever so slightly , but i guess it,ll need changed at some point.

I don't recommend messing with it. Unless you have several varieties of pullers for the nose pulley and the bearings, and you also have a press it is a job that can REALLY suck. I fought with mine for abouta week and finally just sent it off to be rebuilt.

Sorry, I just noticed that you are only planning replacing the seal. That ony requires one puller for the pulley which can easily be rented. To just do the seal --
pull the nose
use the puller to remove the pulley
use a dead blow or press to remove the shaft from the nose
use a small screw driver or pick to remove the old seal
tap the new seal in place (be careful not to distort it)
tap the shaft back in
put in a new coupler while you are in there
reinstall the pulley and the nose

the spec of the front oil seal is 20x47x7

and bearings distributors can get these

ask for a viton twin lipped


the nitrile ones are shite and will wear after 8 - 9000 miles

when fitting the new one , put a little silicon gasket on the outer lip and a bit of s/c oil on the inner lips to help it go over the shaft

tap it all the way home....job done.

insert retaining clip , install pulley and torq the bolt to 45ft lbs
