Just bought a Msm, it's a hot mess and I need adult supervision
 

Hey everybody, I picked up an 04 velocity red msm last weekend and have been working to get it up and running well enough to decide whether I want to keep it or just put a turbo on my 10th ae. When I purchased the car it was explained to me that it had a toggle switch for the fuel pump. I thought it was word but figured it wouldn't be a big deal since it was such a good deal on the car. So I got it home, and started trying to get rid of this wiring mess. The main relay in the engine bay had been jumpered from the fused 12v wire to the white/blue and white/red plug (the left two if looking into the engine bay from the passenger side) and the under dash fuel pump relay had the switch running from the middle plug to the left plug when looking at it with the three wires running across the bottom. If I disconnect both of these wiring bits and plug the correct relays in the check engine light doesn't light up when I put the key in and turn it to run, the immobilizer light flashes for a second right as it starts to start, and it will crank but no fuel. If I have the main relay and the fuel pump relays jumpered and the switch it the closed position the fuel pump will run and the car will crank and run, but stumbles for the first 15ish minutes. No smoke, runs great, just stumbles at idle and will shut off if you're not tapping the throttle to keep it up. While driving the imobilizer light flashes code 24(no connection between ecu and imobilizer unit) I've been checking diagrams and can't figure out where the issue lies. Any help would be very appreciated, I'd love to put this car on the road sooner rather than later.

Sounds like they tried to bypass the imobilizer by forcing the fuel pump to run. I bet if you hooked up any standalone ecu the car would run fine.

Yeah, that's what I was kind of thinking the cause might be. Anyone know the compatibility of connectors between msm's and other nb2s or an nb1?

MSM's have the same ecu connectors as 01-05, but they are pinned out differently.

Are you still in St Mary's? Any chance you still have your stock ECU that I could borrow to see if I can get this ol girl back on the road?

I have the stock ecu in a box somewhere the problem is factory ecu's only work with their original imobilizer module. You need a factory ecu, imobilizer, and a key that was programmed to it. I'm guessing the car you have doesn't have any of its original keys and if that's the case the easiest thing to do would be install a megasquirt. The stock MSM ecus suck anyway low rev limiter, lean hesitation before bost, and not tunable.

Yeah, I am trying to keep the price down on stuff to get it running if I can, I think I'm gonna sell it once I get it running good and all. The car came with two keys which I assume are good, with all the strange stuff going on I'm not positive it's the immobilizer, but I don't have anything definitively leading me to think it is anything else either. A friend of mine is going to send me his stock msm ecu, I'm going to reprogram it to crank with the immobilizer that is installed in the car, and see if I get anywhere with that. Would love to go aftermarket, but I'd rather save that money for turbo parts for my 10th ae.
