Koni Race + What spring rate on GC?
 

I'm going to buy GC coilovers with Koni Race shocks. What spring rate should I be running?

450/375 if you track the car enough to care. If not its going to drain your will to live on the street.

I'm looking at the most aggressive spring rate, best for track.

what size and compound tires?

the local track crew thinks those dampers can't take more than 500lb/in springs. 375lb/in are in the "turbo SM" cars out here after numerous track days with telemetry. I say go 500/375, get the car cornered and strung, then of course you get damping and sway bar adjustment.

yeah i am running 550/450 on the street with koni race. Could go stiffer for a track only car.

I drove my car 400 miles this weekend, including 130 miles back to SLO from Marina (hey FHS :magna: ) with a passenger. The passenger has an '02SE with Sport package Bilsteins, and he says my car rides better than his car does on the highway.

Pakman, my exact setup is the Races with 700/450 springs, RB Tubular 1.125" front bar, MSM 14mm rear bar, 2.3 camber front, 2.5 camber rear, 5.9 caster, 1/16" toe out front, 1/32" toe in rear. Those alignment settings are crap, though. the car needs to be around 1.8-2.0 camber in the rear with zero toe and a little less caster, probably 3.5 degrees or so.

Sav's car rides better than my tein flex 9kf6kr setup too.... :(

Thanks buddy.. i'm in the process of getting rid of my shit and than I can finally step up to Koni Race/GC and then start buying struts and sways and other goodies.

You need to do the front sway at the same time at least. My car with no big front sway would be a pretty scary ride. Oversteer city.

I was running 700FR/325RR. The rear is too soft, so I have stepped up to 400RR. I haven't driven it with them yet, so no opinion just yet.

Oh, and this is my DD. Everyone who rides/drives it says it rides decent, not too harsh.


Actually, Keith is running 700FR/375RR on Koni Yellows, not race. Everyone I talk to, including Bobby Archer, Keith, and Koni techs, say they have not hand any problems running up to and OVER 800 rates on the yellows. With that said, with ANY shock, you need to send it in and get it revalved for the rates you are actually running for optimal performance.

I have 23k miles on my Yellows with the 700 springs and haven't had any issues.

Wierd, the limit I was given by Koni people (lee grimes) and others was about 500 is getting rougher on them and 600 you are drastically shortening their life. That is on OTS koni's.

I ran 500/400 on OTS and hated the ride quality. Went to a properly dampened shock and it ran 900/800 rates and it felt WORLDs better. (honda application)

Saying that, I'll probably be going with 700/400 on the miotta. Currently have a koni cupkit dealy that I had revalved to SPSS3 specs... can't wait to put good spring rates onto them.

SO Koni Race with GC 900/600 with a really fat front sway would be too high?

i got 650/450 on koni yellows...i love it...no problems after about 7-8K
also did RB hollow bar at same time, stock rear, may take it out completely this season

Every single other piece of information I have read on this topic says 500-550 is the limit of the Yellows.

My car used to be an STS2 car.
I even took it to nationals last year, didnt do very good because I suck.
I'm running 800-500, my front shocks have the race revalving, the rears are OTS. I have an RB hollow front sway bar and stock rear.
Alignment is -2.5 up front with 7 degrees of caster 3/16 toe out. Rear is -2.7 with 1/16 toe in.
It works really really nice. Geoff Chambers and Gus Hammerly, (regular nationals tour contenders) both drove my car and said it handles really good.
You can also try 700-450.
This setup is for street tires - Shaved Bridgestones RE01R 195-50/15 with 15*7.5 rota slipstreams

that's kind of my plan once the front ones blow, get them race re-valved and go to 750-800 front rate, leave rear as is since it's beautiful just like it is, well i like the front too, i do need more spring in the front though, i drive very agressive...

If you ever come down to Atlanta I would love to get a chance to get ride.
