ksport

Is ksport suspension just ricer crap or is it worth anything

cjernigan 01-25-2008 01:28 AM

There was recently a member on the forum that installed some, had a heck of a time getting them installed right. I don't have personal experience with them though. The people i have talked to that have owned and driven with them pretty much said they were crap.
You can get Tein basics for pretty cheap if you want a drop in solution. Otherwise I think you would be better off with a bilstein/koni, spring/adjustable perch solution such as GCs.

mazda311 01-25-2008 01:39 AM

what about the tokico adjustables, I think called illuminas?

sup gurl 01-25-2008 01:40 AM

i had the k-sports on my mazda 3, rode good, looked good, but shocks leaked after like 5k miles.

pretty sure 3 out of 4 shocks were replaced when i had them...

go with the basics

Funny thing about KSport is, as bad as they seem to be for the Miata application, a friend of mine with a '95 240SX loves his.

the dumbass who had trouble was because he installed the front shocks on the rear, and the rear shocks on the front.

what miata? 01-25-2008 02:12 AM

i got stance on mine.... i love them.. there a little hard core tho. kinda stiff.

teknikscian 01-25-2008 03:01 AM

from what ive seen from ksport/stance/megan. is that that springs are not well matched to the shocks. so that makes the whole system pretty much useless. kinda like the fm springs and kybs that i have... i cant wait to switch out my shocks...

They're supposedly great, i can't say though. All i know about suspension is read, i'm still on stock stuff.

You should have picked up my used FM set up when I was selling it. Perfect it ain't, but a HUGE step up from stock. Makes the car, what's the word.... fun?

Crap

I've also seen some come apart at the track first hand. The fucking shock separated from the bottom mounts(s13), the metal fatigued, these were brand new.

bryantaylor 01-25-2008 10:20 AM

the older k-sports had a big problem blowning seals, but they were supposed to re-do the seals not to long ago

everyone on earth knows ground control with bilstein or koni is the standard, and half the miata crew jizz over tien which some believe be any better than GC setups. From my moderate track experience with telemetry and running with a bunch of friends who may or may not sell Tein products, I've never run into a sittuation where I needed adjustability or a different spring rate at 450/375. I've driven maybe 4 different cars all set-up in a similar fashion and I wouldn't go with anything other than GC/bilstein for the money.

Everyone wants to do something different, but unless you're spending ohlins, penske, robispec, or advancedesign money, the gains are marginal at best if not a failure...you also pretty much need telemetry to determine how to adjust the high dollar 4-way, preload adjustable stuffs.

Its pretty hard to fuck up a spring and perch, and everyone knows koni and bilstein are rock-steady and perform well.

I'm the dumbass..... ;)

FYI, the shop fucked up.... I was stuck at work all week and didn' have a good chance to go look at the situation.... guess that's what happens when I decide it's too cold to work on the car and take it somewhere....

Anyways, I like mine so far, seems to ride nicely, much better than my blown old stockers.... I don't track the car, and they were purchased for looks/emissions waiver... So they'll serve their purpose

rappadan 01-26-2008 11:25 AM

+1 for stance. Stiff but still rides good. A shit ton better than my bilstein/gc set up.

No one is running or has tried KW's?

I've got basically the same thing as the KW Variant 3's on my STi, but not on the miata. They are the Variant 3's but revalved and such by RaceComp Engineering.... I love them, perfect for daily driving and track use.

RusMan 01-26-2008 03:44 PM

I have the Stances as well and very highly recommend them.
