KW Suspension
 

Does anyone here have experience with KW Suspension on a Miata (Variant 1)? Can anyone recommend a place to get them? I haven't started calling the dealers on KW's website yet, I figured I'd ask for recommended dealers first. Thanks guys for your input.

I've never had experience with the setup on a Miata, but I had a good look at the setup on a Protege5. For the money I was damned impressed. But other than that I have nothing useful to add. :)

They have an awesome reputation in the VW world. Back in 99 a buddy of mine had a set of Varient 2's on his MKII Gti that had a 3.0 Liter Vr6 in it. That car still turned in so sharp and felt well balanced even with the heavier engine up front. I'd still recommend the Tein Flexes though for that type of money. Retaining full suspension travel makes a world of difference in the ride and handling.

Sport Compcat Car did a write up b/c they but KW suspension on their project miata...prolly could find a back issues...I'll see if I can find mine...

Are you saying the KW's would not retain full suspension travel?

Yes. They adjust height like most other coilovers on the market...by moving the spring up and down. The Tein Flex(there may be others as well) allow you to adjust ride height by moving the actual mounting bracket or adjusting the shock body lenght up and down. I have had coilovers on 4 of my cars now you really notice the difference even when you only kill .5" of travel. The ride that the Teins delivered at the pretty low by Miata standards ride height I ran at was incredible. The Gti I just bought has H&R coilovers on it. They will be going up for sale to be replaced by something that adjusts in a similar manner to the Teins.

Hmm ok I have to look into the KW's and Teins more then, thanks for your reply's WOT. I have just heard some negatives about Tein in general (no personal experience), but have yet to read anywhere someone who regretted buying KW's.

I would buy the Teins again. If for some reason they offer em for my new MKIII Gti I will be running them.

I also had a set on my old turbo 16v mk2 vw. I sold them after 7 years or so. I never had any complaints. These are the best on the market in terms of corrosion protection. They are my second choice, behind custom valved GC/Bilstein set-up's, this side of Advance coilovers.
