leak down test done....can I do this?
 

So I did a compression test and had a shop do a leak down test.

Compression(at 5,300ft):
160-165-170-160

Leak down:
10%-20%-8%-20%
(The mechanic thought the leaks on 2 and 4 were coming from the rings)

So I was considering turboing the car with a FM Voodoo II or BEGi Series 1 (GT2554R) and putting about 5-6 psi in the engine. Could I do that with the 2nd and 4th cylinder and not have any problems other than more loss of power on those cylinders, or do I need to do an engine rebuild / fix before turboing the car?

If I do have to do an engine rebuild or replace the o-rings or something of that nature any idea how much it might cost?

Too much leak. Get the block honed, and get some rings. You can probably wing it and hone the block at home and get some new, stock rings. It might get you by, and its worth the shot. I've honed a block by hand and it worked for 60k+ miles.

I've never done engine work before so would it be doable for a n00b like me or is it really easy to fuck up?

how's the thing run now? does it burn oil?

if it's running ok now, i say fuck it, throw on the turbo and roll with it. deal with any problems that may arise later when they occur

I think it runs fine now and I don't notice any oil burning.

Searching some threads over at m.net someone in a similar situation got the suggestion ....turbo it let it blow up then replace the motor with a motor with 60k miles on it for 700 bucks.

but it really depends on how hard it would be to do this on my own or how much it would cost to have someone else to do the work. I would prefer to fix it if it isn't that hard or too much.

you can get motors a lot cheaper than that if you look.

You can read up on the diy job, but no one is going to recommend it.

When you say "DIY job" do you mean replacing the o-rings / fixing the engine or replacing a motor after blowing it up? (I'm guessing fixing the engine but I just want to be sure)

a good mechanic would know if it was rings or valves or both...

there's a motor in atlanta that may be good for $300....

um...you can't do this. Get a used engine.
