I have a 1993 LE .. it comes with Red interior..
the leather seats have been damaged.. It is 14 years old after all..

i saw that LEATHER/VINYL REPAIR KIT on amazon.. which was for around 10-15$... do these actually work?

Depends what you are looking to use it for. They'll patch small tears in non-stress areas, but if you think you can get a decent color-match, and something that will take the wear of a high-stress area like a side bolter, dream on.

I'm in the same boat with my LE seats. They look like crap, but they're $$$ to replace, although there is a place up in Canada that makes some ridiculously nice replacement covers for the 93LE. They're a perfect color match, amazing leather quality, and don't have any vinyl on them. NWautoleather.com special order

take it to an upholstery shop. You'll be amazed. I've seen damage like yours go back to looking almost new. Its worth it.

Let me know what they tell you. I keep hearing prices in the $800-$900 range from them, IIRC.

Considering its not a show car, you can probably get a fill done and be happy with it. I've seen fills (considering my father moves 3-8 $75k+ classic cars per month) that I couldn't notice even up close.

I just did one in my subaru that turned out good enough that I can lock it out of mind.

Are they good enough to take stress? If so, maybe I need to revisit my seat nightmare. I've done some cheap fills that look good...until you sit on it.

there is a shop where i used to live that put leather/vinyl uphostery for new car dealers, they also did sunroofs and all kinds of stuff and were backed by each manufacturers warranty for any malfunction...point of the story, if you know someone that works at a dealership, i am sure they have companies like this all over the states, ask them who their local guys are and try to go there, they have OEM stuff too, they matched Toyotas factory interior colors and had like 150 custom colors to choose from...the co. that im talking about is called tops and trends, and i think they are just here in NC, but i am sure they have similar co. everywhere else

the stuff done by professionals is much better than the permatex kit at pep boys.

The problem with the seats in the Miata is the type of leather used. It's a split hide and embossed, so very difficult to repair. Even if you could patch it and make it look half decent the area on the seat takes a shit kicking and likely wouldn't last very long. I've got the same issue with my tan leather seats.

so 640$... That is too much for me.. I think i will call the local leather repair company and check them out...

Yeah, and the red is more expensive, as it is a special-order leather of higher quality than what they normally use. But ridiculously nice.
