It all sounds like regular maintenance and user error. Although when I had a 1.6 one of my rear calipers froze because the parking brake bracket on the caliper became corroded.

So riddle us this....... Are "wear" items not supposed to wear?

When the water pump went and was replaced did you change the timing belt?

of course i did, it would be stupid not to... I even replaced the woodruff key and timing gear while i was there.. loctite 660 and 243 in the right places off the top of my head ;)

Oh, it also serves to say I've gone through those 3 batteries in 4 years and approximately 5k miles.
