Let's play "Name that sensor"
I am in the process of swapping an ubercharged '99 engine into my '92. I have most everything accounted for, but wanted a second opinion on several things.
Can anyone verify my identification and approach? The first three are from the 1.8 '99 motor Part number one: I think is the idle speed controller. I wonder if we can do without it as the wiring is totally different than the 1.6 http://www.systemstrategies.com/miat...112307_001.jpg http://www.systemstrategies.com/miat...112307_002.jpg Part number two: I believe to be the exhaust gas recirculation control. Thinking of blocking of the control plate and plugging the opening on the header and not installing the crossover tube. http://www.systemstrategies.com/miat...112307_003.jpg http://www.systemstrategies.com/miat...112307_004.jpg Part number three: Secondary optical timing sensor? Thinking of just leaving it unconnected. http://www.systemstrategies.com/miat...112307_005.jpg The last one is from the 1.6. Part number four: Unknown sensor at the back of the block near the water outlet. http://www.systemstrategies.com/miat...112507_001.jpg Cross posted on m.net as well. Thanks for looking. |
#3 = cam angle position sensor (I replaced this on my car during troubleshooting). #2 = egr valve. Think you're right on #1 as well - someone here can confirm ? (#1 is either diff on the '00 motor or was part of the SC kit).

#4 is the temp probe for the gauge in your dash.( i believe. i'm a 94 guy so what do i know?)
|
#1 looks like an air valve for the AIC.
#2 looks like the EGR #3 looks like the CAS #4 is the temp signal to the dash |
Brain has them labeled right. For a block off plate you can either make one or you can just pinch the tube shut and braze it so it doesn't leak.
|
#2 looks more like a bypass valve for the SC than an EGR... but I don't know the NBs well.

Thanks guys. Question on the temp sensor for the dash, I would obviously like to preserve this function. Do any of you know the voltage and corresponding value for the sender? I was thinking I might use the eManage Ultimate to read the ecu temp input and output it to the dash gauge. Anyone (Joe Perez are you listening?) know if thats a reasonable approach?

Just plug the wire in there it doesn't change from year to year from what i can tell.
