The car I looked at was actually in Sacramento. It was in April and cool and rainy. I guess the combination of cool air and age caused it to tear.

Buy the vinyl, glass window, no zip. With our without defrost is up to you. I had good luck with Daveshouze on my 90 and that's what I'm putting on the black 99. I think it's $230 on his ebay store. It will take you 6 hours the first time if you are working alone and have to remove and reuse your old rain rail. You will need a drill and pop rivet gun.

I have a Robbins Black Glass Cloth top that came with miata #2 (transplanted to #3 now).

I like it and it looks great, except the zipper part that attaches the window to the top has started to come undone. I have to use boxes to keep it propped up whenever I have the top up :ghetto:. Maybe one day I'll get it sewn up??

I'd rather just get to the point where it's my second car and I can remove the top completly (with maybe a HT for winter).

My advice, get a robbins if you don't want any performance parts or it needs to look nice/perfect. If you're just starting out as you say, no turbo on sig, then I'd say spend your money on turbo stuff instead. Get a junkyard M2 top and call it a day, any glass top FTW.

Also, 303 makes the best top cleaner: http://www.303products.com/shop303/i...category_ID=11

OK GREAT NEWS GUYS!!!!!!

I have been looking/searching/calling everywhere I know trying to make the best decision, and in the end, daveshouze seemed to be the best deal for the money. I heard nothing but good things about them, they have a good feedback on ebay, and I called them and talked to them, the lady (Pam I think) was very nice and informative.

I went with the vynil, glass window, no defroster, no-zip black top. The price was 240 + 40 for shipping, so 280 shipped. For the one I got, that is the cheapest I could find out of the reputable companies out there.

I should receive it by next week, cant wait

I'll be installing the exact same top shortly on my black 99. I had great luck with their tops in the past.

Ok boys and girls, the top finally came in and I installed it last night. worked very late so expected to screw it up completely, but surprisingly it came out pretty good.

Overall id rate the kee top an 8.5/10
The fit and fitment is good, everything is made pretty good quality, but the holes were not drilled completely which slowed us down quite a bit, and no instructions sucked ***. I printed out some from m.net but they suck *** and I pretty much had to do it my own way. Overall I like it a lot and it looks good imo. definitely better than driving around with a shitty one with holes lol

Default Another cheapo alternative

Hey guys, thought I'd add a note here. I was at the local boneyard and the owner saw that I was looking for Miata parts. He showed me a 99 that was freshly front-ended, after I looked at it closer I noticed it was somebody's baby. He sold the cloth top, frame, and rain rail for $200. BTW, the NB top conversion is very popular and you get that cool, glass top down in seconds feeling.

local yard here wanted 400 and theirs was ok condition, nothing great. daveshouze was clearly the most cost efficient place for me

Save your money and get a hardtop. Not only is it more secure, the aero improvement is very noticeable above 80mph. My car gets better mileage with the top on, like 2-3mpg.

hard top without a doubt is the best, but when you are on a budget, it is absolutely out of the question.....still looking though, hoping that I find some crazy deal from some crackhead that will be under 500

Damn that's cheap! That's almost worth a drive up to Dallas.
