Hello, I also know that the Link isnt the prefered ecu in here, but its what I have and I was just wondering who else has it and if you have any secrets to DIY tuning. I am also installing an Lc-1 to help.

Also just give a shout out if you run a Link, or have run it.
Feel free to write about any pros and/or cons, anything you want!

The Link is a good ecu. Load a base map, following the autotuning regimen in the manual and the go to a dyno for tweaking under boost. If you go through all the tuning threads here, you won't find anybody who didn't leave the dyno making more power than what they came in with (except when Tom blew up). :D Best return on HP/dollar.

FM is the only place to buy a Link. They only sell the 94-97 units anymore. Newer cars get Hydra, older cars get Voodoo. It's a great unit and for a long time was the only show in town for a proven direct PnP standalone ECU. Now we've got Hydra, Xede, MS, and a lot more options for various prices/capabilities, and ease of install tuning. Hell, Xede is $200 less and comes with injectors. Hydra is only $300 more and is has way more capability. You can do MS for $300.

Of course just the ECU doesn't get you all the way. You still need injectors, Wideband, IAT sensor, etc... and a couple hours on a dyno.

I've seen guys sell complete used Link setups with all the peripherals for under $1000. If you've got a hard-on for it, there's no reason to buy new. If you have to buy new but have a budget, then MSpnp/IAT/EBC/LC1 can't be beat for $$vs.performance for exactly $1000. Don't forget the injectors.

He's already got one. I kept mine because I picked it up four years ago for $600.

Do you actually read the entire post before starting you response? He is asking for help, not your take on the aftermarket ECU offerings.

Now on to the help. Read the link tuning manual, the link is pretty straight forward and well documented. Post up if you have specific questions or problems. I posted a link in another thread showing you specifically how to setup the link and Lc-1.

Heres my problem... I dont know where to load a base map and I lost the manual:bang:. I see you have a palm pilot hooked up.. is this a good idea? I saw on FM there are upgrades to the link... My link is like 4 or 5 years old. Any advise? And FYI... I'm not a genius when it comes to tuning.

What is IAT? And what does it do?

Never. Sometimes I just feel like waxing poetic on my favorite subjects. It never occurs to me to read the whole post... if I did that, then I might actually say something useful and people looking for help would get spoiled. We can't have that. I know my place... and it certainly isn't to help.

IAT=Intake Air Temp
Technically, it might be a little confusing when we refer to IAT. The IAT sensor should be placed after the Intercooler to achieve a more accurate temp of the air in the manifold. If you look at Megatune, you'll see that IAT is referred to as MAT (Manifold Air Temp) which is probably more correct. Technically, the intake is the piece of tube/filter prior to the turbo. Some people have drilled/tapped an IAT sensor into the manifold itself to achieve actual in-manifold temps. Most of us find it's a 99.9% solution to place the IAT sensor just before the Throttle Body on the cold-side pipe. It's not true MAT, but it's damn close.

Intake Air Temperature sensor. It senses the temperature of the intake air.


By the way, it would be helpful if your signature contained some more detailed information, such as what year your car is. We can probably do without knowing that you desire a lightweight seat.

Download the manual per Joe's link above. It'll walk you through the process of loading the base map AND getting the car running step by step. That's the big advantage of having the link- FM has made it about as easy as it gets to get a full emu in the car and have it drivable right after install.
