Looking for NA seat options.

I've got an NA that has a pretty bad drivers seat. I'm looking for one that will fit and either use the stock slider or have an aftermarket one. I need one comfortable enough to daily and have provisions for a 5-Point. Thanks for the help!

Momo Start/Sparco Sprint

Fab up some rails that mount to the factory location, use a sledge to beat on the transmission tunnel, and realize that mounting race seats is one of the most miserable things you can do on a car.

Elise seats are the only thing that I know that fits both of these and fits in the car. If you're DDing and can't find Elise seats, you're gonna want some new stock ones. Maybe cut a hole in the seat for a 5 point.

TheMagicMan 11-26-2013 12:14 PM

Fack. There is no easy option?

Leafy 11-26-2013 12:20 PM

Any of the kirkey's fit up to at least the fat person 17" wide ones, the obese person 21" seats might not fit. The average size person 15.5" ones drop in not problem, just use some steel to fab up a mount adapter between the seat and the rail. This can be done with hand tools.

thenuge26 11-26-2013 12:34 PM

Also use the leftover steel to fab up a winch to get you in and out of your kirkey for DD duty.

Naw, its on sliders, you just have to push it all the way back to get in and out. Getting in with the top up is like the hardest part.

Yeah, go buy a stock seat.

Scrappy Jack 11-26-2013 03:47 PM

Elise seats do not have provisions for anti-sub belts as far as I know.

The Sparco Speed2 should fit with the Wedge Engineering/Sparco bases and sliders.

Sparco USA

I have Sparco Revs. The driver side is a Wedge/Sparco base + Sparco slider. The passenger is on a Nagisa Auto super low rail + slider combo. I did have to hammer the tunnel a bit to on the passenger side, as I recall, to get a more full range of motion. It's under the carpet, so no big deal.

thenuge26 11-26-2013 03:58 PM

You DD the Bimmer though right Jack? How bad are the Sparco's to enter/exit with the top up?

I do DD the 3-series. Getting in and out of the Sparcos is more cumbersome than a stock seat or an Elise seat due to the sides, but not overly arduous. Then again, I am efficiently packaged (~5'7", 160 lbs) and fairly agile. There is definitely a technique to it, and I have a quick release steering wheel which does help.

The seats are not the most comfortable things in the world, but I've driven them hundreds of miles at a time (from central FL to Roebling and back).

The focus of my car is probably 80% track and 20% street. If those were flipped, I'd consider spending more money on an Elise-style seat (like the Corbeau LE).

Or the Cobra Racer 7

dcamp2 11-26-2013 05:19 PM

I'd say no to DD'ing a Sparco Sprint V... I was in the same situation, and now have a stock seat on sliders and the sparco for track days.

Entry and exit sucks with the race seat, and using a 5pt to dd sucks. I just swap back and forth. Also making your own mounts is hard. buy some.

Leafy 11-26-2013 05:24 PM

The good side with most kirkeys is that you can use the stock belts and if you fit the seat properly they're super comfortable. Entry and exit is a pain, and the vinyl cover on the cheaper kirkeys sucks because of back sweat.

thenuge26 11-26-2013 05:38 PM

I've thought about cutting a hole in the bottom of stock seats for a sub belt. I could then continue using stock belts to DD and 5-point at the track/when I want ricer points.

How horribly unsafe an idea is that?

TheMagicMan 11-26-2013 06:23 PM

Ya back sweat is an issue I have with the tan leather seats I have now. I'm also trying to find a seat where I can still use the stock seatbelt as well.

Scrappy Jack 11-27-2013 09:07 AM

I could use the stock seatbelts with my Sparco Revs and will probably look to try that. The problem for me is not the seat but the Harddog rollbar which places the seatbelts at an angle that slows standard retraction, even with the little adaptor brackets.

Harnesses + fixed-back seat = the suck for a daily driver.

TheMagicMan 11-28-2013 02:18 PM

Might need to find some lotus seats.

Those were my basic requirements, although I have an NB.

I end up with the Marrad seats from Goodwin. They are a bit pricey, but include the base and slider, it works out the same as a fiberglass Sparco with base and slider. They bolt in with no welding, although it takes me 30 minutes to get the passenger seat back in.

With the cushions in they are daily drivable, I did two 9 hour trips each way in them. Without the cushions they'll get your head under the bar. They have the proper holes for a 5-Point. I use some of the special seat foam from Pegasus Racing for track days.

They're a compromise seat, not the best daily seat, not the best racing seat, but will work for a car that does both.

We put Kirkey Pro-Drag seats in our car for AutoX. The 17" required the tunnel be cut to fit, the 16" fit with no major mods. Our challenge wasn't comfort however, it was fitting my 6'4" hubby in the car - so we had to do major mods in the car to get him to fit. I do not find the Kirkey seats particularly comfortable and have added lots of aftermarket foam pads to make the drive tolerable going to and from AutoX events.

I love my lotus seats. They are mounted on stock sliders, yet still put me lower and further back than the OEM seats by quite a bit. The ones I have were already cut for harnesses, so I may end up adding them. They also have adjustable lumbar support with a hand pump.

Terrible pic

When you say stock sliders... you mean stock lotus sliders or miata sliders? Did they bolt right in or need some significant creativity? I seem to remember people having to build custom mounts for them, if they bolt in that would certainly make them a lot more desirable.

I have a feeling you also dont fit well into the 17" kirkey. Its very body shape dependent. I love my 15.5 economy but bet I would hate the 17.

The ones i bought were already mounted to OEM rails using this bracket design:

It does not look like that seat has a provision for lap belts in the pictures on Good-Win's site. Is that accurate?

Do you mean intermediate? It doesn't look like you could use the stock seat-belts with the economy series...

Leafy 02-05-2014 11:29 PM

On no the stock belts work great with the economy. The cut for the lap belt is very deep, even string beans are held by it.

The Corbeau LE is the Elise seat, anyone have a source in the states for these? They seem to be a Europe only seat.

I second this. I have a Marrad drivers seat in my 01. I constantly drive long distances in it and I find it more comfortable than the stock leather one was by a mile.

899.00 for one in cloth plus 120.00 is shipping yikes!

Chilicharger665 02-09-2014 09:45 PM

I completely agree. I only bought it because I was really flush with cash right about this time last year. I look back and wonder how I did it, but the seat was worth it. Mostly.

LeadFootLiam 02-13-2014 09:09 PM

Would someone be able to tell if these would fit in an NA Miata?
https://www.recaro-automotive.com/us...uct/speed.html

Great looking seat, and have heard if your under a 34' waist then they are pretty comfortable, plus it has the red stitching which I like.

TorqueZombie 02-14-2014 12:46 AM

Holy $700 seats. Hard to drop the coin for a seat I've never sat in. Wish there was a place around here that stocked seat to try out. Speed shop in Italy has one of each Sparco to test in. Miss it. Curious how the Ssparco speed fits

Ya I need to find a place that carries these seats in my area.
