LS7 Miata

:eek5:

That's right kids.. It's here. 2007 Z06 Corvette drivetrain; LS7, torque tube, rear-mounted transmission and differential, all going into The Phoenix Project (2000 Miata).

Dig it.

(For those unfamiliar, the Phoenix is the LS1 Miata which burned up ten minutes after I bought it.. The rebuild has been pretty extensively documented over at rectuM.net, and of course on my site at phoenix . After the car burned I decided to rebuild it as the absolutely wildest LSx/MX5 ever built, so the evolution from LS1/T56 to full on complete Z06 Corvette drivetrain seems like a natural progression..

Talk amongst yourselves.

That will be great for doing parking lot donuts or bending the frame.

johndoe 11-25-2008 01:44 PM

should be interesting trying to fit zo6 sized rubber under there. Guess he'll be running r-compound 24/7

I don't know why he's using the torque tube and transmission solution from the 'vette when he could easily mate the LS7 to a T56 and run a CTS or Ford 8.8 rear setup.

I'm guessing to get a pound or two over the rear half of the car. We've had a couple of those show up at the high speed autocross events. With the trac control disabled both owners ended up making pretty little rubber swirly marks in the pavement on several different runs. I'm guessing there was no way to transplant the traction control, so that should drive like the blown 426cu. in. Hemi powered Model T I saw the other day. Fun, but in an uncontollable, "we're all gonna die!", kinda way.

Thats cool as hell, but why would he bother to rebuild the body of the torched car. seems like a waste of time to me.

I've been reading his build thread since the first post showing the car burning.

A lot of the stuff he's doing pretty much because he can and it's cool.

because from my understanding, neither of those rear ends can handle the torque of a 450+ ft*lbs producing 427.

I wouldn't say it is going to be the wildest LS Miata build. But, it will sure be pretty crazy.

What are you doing for structural integrity in the chassis?

Congrats

If I spent 12k and only got a few miles out of it, I would keep the shell for something too.

But it was toast?

Wouldnt it be easier, faster, possibly safer and more reliable to just get a shell in any condition? In my mind ANY shell is better then that toast one.

Maybe im not understanding.

Wouldn't be the first time. :fawk:

He bought a beast and 10 minutes later it burned to the ground. The "company" that built and sold the car said, in short, fuck you. So he decided to rebuild the car and "fix" all the shortcomings of what was then, the only LS swap kit on the market. The idea is when he's done, the car will be better in every way. And then he figured while he was at it, he'd make and sell his own kit to put the company that sold him the car out of business.

not so much pat. the car burning down was a freak acident. the guys that built it drove the piss out of it, took it to the track and raced it several times. there really isnt a "company" just a few guys here in jax that built the car, then tried to sell the parts they made.

Which shop, if any, were they at? Stage 6? I'm tempted to try and see this in person over Xmas. You know the guy Bryan?

bryantaylor 11-26-2008 06:33 PM

i have talked to him some. he actually lives right around the corner from me. but it wasnt a "shop" just some guys built it in their garage really.

Yeah, I know. I have read about it before. Hence why I put "company" in quotation marks.
