At the junkyard I found what I THINK is an 84, it has a IMSA-GTU sticker in the back window from Mazda that notes 1984. I looked under the rear, and it has a sway bar (and rear drums) so I'm pretty sure it's clutch type. ALL the badges, interior and VIN tags are gone, so I have no idea of what trim level it is.

How do I get the axles out? I pulled the front cover off, but it's stuck with the diff. There are 4 small nuts on the back of the drums but they only let the brakes come off, the axles are still in there. There is no rear cover, so I'm stuck on what to do. I'm searching the RX-7 forums...but they aren't very helpful.

Spin one axle, watch the other. If they spin the same way, jackpot. If you spin one, and the other spins the opposite way or not at all, leave it be.

usually those diffs have a little tag that says lsd fluid only on the fill port.

better test is keeping the pass side on the ground and trying to spin the driver side, if it spins it's an open, if there's effort to spin it a clutch-type, not at all, a good clutch or seized rear

I just found out it's not a clutch type because of the drums, damn. I had one sourced locally but the guy is too stupid to understand what I want. He keeps trying to sell me steering parts when I tell him the pinion and rear diff.
