Motor Speed
-------Motor Efficiency
---------------Controller Efficiency
------------------------System Efficiency
2000 89.0% 94.4% 84.0%
2000 85.0% 95.3% 81.0%
2000 80.0%
3000 89.0% 94.4% 84.0%
3000 86.0% 95.3% 82.0%
3000 82.0%
4700 87.0% 95.4% 83.0%

Thats couple motors thats why different efficiencies at same rpms however even the lowest one.. still over all efficiency over 80%.. much better than 12-17%

EV: low cost, decent range, good performance
Pick two (current state of the art).

triple88a 11-06-2009 10:37 PM

from what i can see the main and only problem why we dont have electric vehicles is the range.

Reverend Greg 11-06-2009 11:05 PM

+1 on the range. If given an affordable sporty option with a 300 mile range I would drive Electric in a minute.IIRC most conversions have a point in tuning that the motor control has to be adjusted to maintain traction,Electrics produce 100% torque from0 rpm

Lame, its only a 120V DC system. Someone did that about 10 years ago. I'd like to see a 720V AC system (even a 480V), that would be sweet! If I get a real job I bet that is a project the girlfriend would approve of.

triple88a 11-07-2009 01:02 AM

usually volts and cost increase linearly.

DC systems are pretty much entery level systems. Not many options, not much wiring...not many volts...

AC is the advanced system that allows you to use it for regenerative brakes and so forth.
Ac is where the power is at.

Lead-acid battery = fail.

DC motor = fail.

Electric car beating turbo car = Epic fail

Right, because all electric cars are slow.

ignorant n00b fail.

We can all learn something from that...someone go beat him...

To prove what? That a 10-second gas-powered car is faster than an 11-second electric car? Ooooo...

triple88a 11-07-2009 02:00 PM

hhmm i guess it must be very easy to make a 10 sec gas powered car

Bassmachine 11-07-2009 02:52 PM

Yes, actually, it is.

Agreed. I seriously considered building an electric car several years ago. When I realized all I could afford was a PWM regulated DC motor and lead acid batteries, I gave up. High-current inverter drives (for AC induction motors) and high(er) energy density batteries are still too expensive for me.

Reverend Greg 11-07-2009 04:22 PM

If i were to under take an electric,No conversions.Ground up build I think would the only way to go,most gas cars are too heavy to start with.Sort of looking like a Locost but really quiet and stupid fast.I admit Ive forgotton too much of my initial electric research.
