Miatas hate me

Ok howdy:fawk:

I recently rebuild my engine in my 99 with a donor block off an older miata

It ran before i pulled it in and now she dosn't want to start.

Its getting spark, getting fuel, compression (around 150 in all cylinders), and i checked timing about 5 times, its dead on. It backfires and hickups but dosn't want to start.

i reused the oil pump, so i had to grind the nub and drill and tap a hole for the crank sensor.

if im reading this thread right its saying to use an adjustable cam wheel so i can set my timing because the hole is a little different locations then the newer style oil pumps?

any advice would be awsome im really stumped:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrof l::bowrofl:

perhaps a bad starter??

Stock ECU/MAF/injectors/ect? Same BP4W head as before, correct?

I'm guessing your plug order or injector wiring is incorrect.

ditto this.

did you set your timing correctly?

namadzam 09-16-2014 10:30 PM

Timing is set, i had another person verify this
It cranks good with a charger on it, i don't think a starter would cause backfire
Didn't touch the injector harness, only rebuild the bottom end
The wires are in the right firing order, i also changed the wires
Exact same setup, just rebuild the bottom end. Same everything

timing is off somehow?

This post says "the tooth that indicates CYL1 is actually 10degBTDC making it possible to set base timing using a scope."
There are 4 teeth on the crank sensor wheel, which tooth represents cyl #1?

Thanks for all the replies, somebody does love me

edit: my plan is to line the sensor up with whatever tooth represents cylinder #1, 10 degrees before tdc, and set the cams 10 degrees before top dead center and my timing should be set to the new location of my sensor.

Coil pack or plugs backwards

Is it possible i put the crank position tooth wheel on wrong. A tooth is alittle less then a 1/4 turn on my crank away from my sensor top dead center.

Yes yes yes yes. I was going to say this. The crank trigger wheel is on backwards. I've done it before and it does exactly what you describe. It took me like 2 months to figure it out. :giggle:

lol i didn't cheak up on this thread until now to follow up, and i fixed the problem. Crank trigger wheel was on backwards. Thanks pdexta but i got to it first haha. First startup was great. First time driving a miata also. Gotta say its a sweet ride!
