In the middle of a twisty flush
Is it possible in any way to NOT get oil all over the K member when taking the oil filter off?
If so, how? |
Hit the whole area down there with Simple Green before you start... most of the oil will slide right off the top of the SG. You're still gonna have to clean up a little, but it's not as bad.
Otherwise, the oil-filter-relocation-kit is your only choice. Check the supporting vendors, some of them sell it. |
What a retarded design! This is as bad as on my SHO; the filter was above the front header.
I'll hose it down with SG and let it sit. Thanks for the advice. |
I lay a wad of paper towels under it first.
|
my theory is it's the bottom of the car who gives a fuck and oil prevents rust so that's a bonus.

you could just hose it off like a normal person. Why don't you kill yourself?
|
I'll take that into consideration, Hustler. I don't mind hosing it off, I was just wondering if there was a trick to keep it from happening in the first place.

Run the engine dry of oil first.

C===3 Miata.net is thatta way pal :giggle:
I have a rag in my left hand while I take it out with the right. I usually dont get any oil on the rag, but its there. Take out that intake manifold brace and you'll have every reason in the world to live.....trust me. Vash- |

+1 for Marek.
Shouldn't the filter be hanging down so the oil won't run out when you loosen it? Has gravity stopped working in your garage? I like repositioning the filter so it's easier to get at. Maybe it's easier to get a rag under it where it's at now too. Oh, and Y8's. What's with the stock air pipe into the intake? |

uh yeah if oil stayed in the filter it wouldn't help my engine much. it drains out fine. i barely need paper towels.
that picture is from 2001. |
very cool then! Kind of makes you wonder why all the other kits don't do this!
|
Where does all the air in the filter go when you start the car? ;)
|
there may or may not be air in the filter at startup and actually it may only be "empty" when the system is open to atmosphere during draining.
but the real answer is: i dont care and it's been on there most of the miles on the odometer. |
