Default What oil do you use?

During the winter (say Pacific Northwest, cold and wet, some snow), what weight oil do you use?

Any extra steps taken after changing the oil to make sure there is enough in the lines for the first startup?

(for turbo obviously)

I run used oil. It's my little part of saving the environment. Used oil lasts longer and is really cheap (if you have the time to stand by the oil drum at the back of the local parts store).

It's tough getting ahold of it now that everyone's in on the secret:

I thought about that, but went a step further and reused oil filters. Seems to give me an extra 15hp or so

Gotta make sure to cut them up every time to look for metal shavings.

Then just duct tape them back together and screw it back on!

Having been on H-T since 2001 I have learnt it's better to go with the flow than get all uptight etc. blah blah "omg you guys are so rude"

However, some actual responses wouldn't go amiss...

Okay, Serious response. I use whatever is cheap, but name brand. I don't track it, and no autoX in the past couple of years. No boost yet, either.

Since I drive the car about 6 months out of the year, and only put 2500-3000 miles on it, I change it every spring (along with a good filter) and don't worry about it.

Unless it was getting REALLY cold up there, i'd probably make no changes.

I don't drive my Miata in winter, but i run 10w-30 in it all the time. (I think. Might have gone 10w-40 last change for some reason.)

My daily turbo beater gets 20w-50 in summer, i'll probably go to 15w-40 for winter. :P

During winter I use warming oil, for obvious reasons. KY Jelly warming is my favorite but it's a personal preference.

I put this in the track car, I'm running the silver bottle in my daily VVT engine but not sure on OCI yet. I might send a sample at 3k but 5k is probably more reasonable.

T6 has good amounts of zinc for camshaft protection, has shown to be durable in high temp/high stress environments, and deals well with fuel saturation. I am now trying it for the first time myself.

I have been running M1 0w30 for the last 4 years and like it a lot. My usage analysis from blackstone shows it holds up well under track conditions. The oil had more than half its life left in it after 420 track miles / 1440 total miles (4 track days) at 8psi.

I have no problem recommending M1 0W30. It is a very thin zero at startup, good for those cold rainy NW mornings.

Edit: for startup pull the fuse for the injectors and let it crank for a few seconds to distribute the oil.

Honestly do they just think they can put "nice" and "cool" for 15 posts before they start selling **** and people won't notice?
