Morimoto XB Type S fog light install and results

So I used the guide on miata.net, but the pictures are broken, so I thought I'd post mine.

Oem fogs for reference

Morimoto fogs, same conditions for comparison
here are the tools and materials I used...

you need a 10mm for a bolt holding the access panel on, and you can use an 8mm socket to adjust the fogs angle

Here is the part number for the fogs (actually pnp for a subaru)

How they are mounted, careful not to position the passenger mounting strap over the plastic adjustment hex thingy.

Make sure to level the fog lights so the beam is parallel to the ground, you dont want them angled upwards, otherwise you defeat the purpose of fog lights.

I will be making another thread about how to rewire the fog light switch to turn fog lights on and off independently from the headlights. In my case, the headlights are too bright for driving through fog, and I really need to keep the fog lights on and headlights off. There is a thread on the miata.net garage about how to do this, but it's all text, and confusing for me, so I'm going to figure it out and postpictures for others to use.

I'm also going to try and use the oem integrated fog light bracket as a more permanent mount for the morimoto fogs.

Nice writeup. How's their beam output compared to OEM ones? I use mine (OEM) quite a lot at night spirited drives in dark mountain roads with no lights around, they help a ton seeing on the inside of corners.

I think you need specialized driving lights, miata fog lights are too recessed to give you corner visibility. I also drive night mountain roads, although not fast anymore, too many deer and hare here. If I wanted to see around corners well, I'd do a light bar with at least four big reflector lamps, two pointed forward, one towards either side. And maybe an LED strip on the top of the windshield frame.

I didn't want to use strapping for mine, so I used 1/4" thick aluminum bar stock.

^I like that, solid. How far do the fogs poke out of the hole? Did you use anything to seal the gap?

On mine, the ridge of the fog is pressed up against the backside of hole:giggle:, I didn't dremel it at all
