i have the engine out of my car and i have to say it was prolly like the same thing as giving birth as a woman:makeout:. it was a great experience it took two hours. joseph is the man..so now we have it out its time to do some new things. stage two clutch. all lower seals and gaskets. even thinking of doing the coolant reroute kit...bell engineering had one for a hundred bucks i would do that. 949 racing has the kit for 300..:eek5: a little steep cause im already gettin raceland coilovers, new turbo timer, gasket and timing belts, stg 2 clutch, and motor mounts..should i get the 949 mts or something else thats a lil more economical. i do not race this car its going to b pretty much my daily driver. but i am performance minded and like to improve things. does anyone know about this bell engineering reroute kit for a 90 model? i saw the 2k up version. joseph was saying that the miata has a poor design ( the cooling system) where im going with this u guys prolly know. braneack knows fer sure. i am also getting an intercooler that joseph has. he wrecked his yata..so im gettin a few things off of it. all this jabberin! my ? is which motormounts should i get and where is this coolant reroute kit?

My god.

Mazdacomp mounts.

Don't get the $90 reroute.

[meme]ENGLISH MOTHERFUCKER. DO YOU SPEAK IT?!?[/meme]

Skip the coolant re-route unless you are going to track the car and/or are making serious power, ducting does wonders for a street car.

Skip the turbo timer, it is absolutely unnecessary.

Call up corksport for the mazdaspeed motor mounts. They have them for cheap.

Use the money you save for a writing course at your local community college. We already have ManginaMX5 around if we want our eyeballs to bleed :).

i know you shouldnt get the turbo timer...

Also, I feel the need to interject this as well.

why should i not get the turbo timer? doesnt it help with the

Braineack 03-16-2010 10:58 AM

nope, it doesn't help with the :insert any noun here:

bandit mx5 03-16-2010 10:58 AM

doesnt it help with the life of the turbo? car running to cool it off. i know its not necessary.

Jeff_Ciesielski 03-16-2010 11:00 AM

On a water cooled turbo it is totally unnecessary. On an oil cooled turbo as long as you don't use the shittiest oil ever and run the car at WOT for long stretches and shut it off immediately following, you'll be fine. Turbo timers are to prevent coking. That is all.

Mobius 03-16-2010 01:48 PM

Need for turbo timer = fail operator.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 03-16-2010 02:03 PM

Unless you go from making a full boost pull, immediately come to a complete stop and immediately shut the ignition off, then its not needed.
In the time between making a pull, driving around for a few seconds, parking, etc the turbo has cooled down enough and all the hot oil have found its way out of the turbo.

You guys could read all that crap? Impressive.

if you plan on driving the car on the street go with the MS mounts.

They're stiff enough to mitigate the risk of miss-shifts due drivetrain movement (at moderate power levels) without compromising day to day driveability.

I have yet to drive a miata with solid mounts, however, if it feels anything like the SE-R I drove with aluminum mounts, then you don't want to go there. You will also find yourself re-torquing bolts on the daily or just wondering where they went.

FYI, there's 3 different motor mounts that Mazda offers, in order of stiffness from softest to stiffest:

stock mounts P/N NC10-39-040
MazdaSpeed mounts (35% stiffer than stock) P/N N076-39-040, and
Mazda Competition mounts (40% stiffer than stock) P/N NAY1-39-040

People seem to use the term MazdaSpeed ("MS") and MazdaComp ("MC") interchangeably. But they're not the same. The picture below shows the two mounts. On the left is the MazdaComp (with the silver line) and the right is the MazdaSpeed (with the "N").

949racing has the MazdaComp mounts.

The Mazdaspeed mounts are more like 20% stiffer than stock. You can tell the difference between those and Mazdacomp ones just by twisting them in your hands.
