MTX-L Sensor Died
 

I know that there are some threads in the past about the MTX-L having sensors dying, instead of resurrecting the dead I figured I'd just add my :2cents: that I'm another statistic in this.

Car's been out of commission for a month, was getting it back up and running last night, and the MTX-L had lost calibration, so I went to calibrate it and it just sat on "HTR" and wouldn't go to "CAL".

Fortunately my local Advance Auto has the bosch sensor I needed for $40 after 30% off online coupon, so I got up and running right away, but it was more than a bit frustrating (I know it's warrantied, but didn't feel like waiting for the RMA).

The car just sat in my garage, sensor worked great when I parked it, it's mounted in a vertical section of the DP so I know it wasn't sitting in water or anything like that. The unit is 6 months old total, and has been installed for less than three, ran it for about 700 miles, then parked it for a month, and it was dead.

Love the unit, love the gauge, love everything about it.. but if it keeps killing sensors I think I'll get grumpy.

Makes me feel a little better, as i cross shopped my aem eugo with the mtx-l. I'd still RMA the sensor even though you bought a new one. No additional downtime on the car, and then you'll have a backup that only costs you a few bucks to ship the old one back to them.

You didn't buy your car from some kind of indian burial ground or somewhere did you? First the turbo, then the wb02 sensor...

Yeah, I plan to RMA the sensor and have a backup just like you say.

One of my tennants is american indian actually.. maybe I should have a chat with him. There have been far too many goofy issues. ><

I will clarify and say that yes, I disconnected it, powered up the device, got the E2 error code, let it sit for a minimum of 30 seconds, then powered the device down, reconnected the sensor, and then powered the device back up, and it sat on "Htr" foreeevvverrr (let it sit nearly 5 minutes).

This is the procedure per the innovate manual.

After getting the new sensor, I did the above procedure again, and it switched from "Htr" to "Cal" to "22.2" in less than 30 seconds, as is "working as intended".

I had my MTX-L get stuck in HTR mode, though not during calibration. Turns out the connector either vibrated ever so slightly loose, or the moron who installed it didn't quite snap it in all the way. I put a zip tie on the connector to hold it tight on the off chance it wasn't my fault.

I've been through four controllers and 4 sensors (sensor and controller failures have been independent of each other).
I'm prepared that any part of them is busted in the spring when i start fiddling with the car (after sitting for six months).

Sensors are cheap and i have now three spares on the shelf (two spares before I needed to replace the last controller).

So the MTX-L have not been a roboust solution in my hands.
It's fast but have no separate sensor ground. My hope is that a CAN-bus connection will improve things a lot.
