I forgot to mention that I think this scoop will work rotated around as a scoop in the nose between the parking lights. Looks like it will follow the contour of the nose quite well - of course finding out for sure requires cutting a hole.
Rob, do you want a "trial bumper" to see if it will work out? I can probably arrange something

I would if I had another scoop... though I need to push that to the "post dyno day" list. I'd really like to get the rad mod and oil cooler install done first.

I followed Ben's lead and used a saber saw and fine tooth metal blade. Worked well. Cut the frame parts with a grinder and cutoff wheel.

Saber saw? Like a sawzall? Jesus talk about overkill I like it!

OT: Anyone have experience with using an air nibbler? I was thinking of picking up a cheap one to cut some aluminum plate.

Saber like a hand held jig saw. This was a $25 black and decker pos - but it did the job. I have an air nibbler - works well but you're far less likely to cut a straight line w/o using a straight edge for a jig. Instead of dust you get a gazillion little disks.

Default temp observations

Drove around at lunch today making a bunch of boosted runs. Just tried to recreate the same environment pre-extractor. Not very scientific, just observations. But it looks like temps are down to 88c from 92c during higher speed boosted runs (cruise runs the same). In traffic at much slower speeds temps are down maybe 2c. And stopped the fan now brings the coolant temp down dramatically quicker - without exaggeration I'd say 2-3 times quicker.

Once its blended it'll look real nice. For now all that matters is that it works!

it's sure is purty

I went out at lunch today and made four boosted runs @15psi peak from 1500 to fuel cut- two in 4th and two in 3rd. Drove the car for about 4 miles ~35mph then parked with car idling and the fan never came on. The temp rose from 86c at speed to 92c and then dropped back down. Sweet. And I think there's some work to do under the hood to encourage flow from the back of the rad. I do think this thing works well for releasing radiant heat from the exchangers as well as extracting at speed.

btw- if you're patient you can pick these up on ebay used for <$50 when users upgrade to a bigger scoop

If you want a WRX scoop, call me. Access to a few. I still probably have my silver one in the attic.

Nice work! I'd expect to see a fairly dramatic difference, especially as air speeds rise.

oh. without counting the mounting lip...the dimensions are 17" x 8 x 1.5" almost identical to Rob's cooper scoop.
