North carolina i believe. What happened to it man is it becouse you tried to start it with no AFM  ? do tell
May have one available shortly
it only had 108k on it we fixed the oil leak it was the oil pan gasket and it stopped leaking so i was going down the highway and just glanced at the temperature gauge and it was past the H and i pulled off my exit and off to the side of the road and the smoke bellowed out so i let it cool down then popped the hood and there was oil and antifreeze everywhere in the engine bay the hose that runs from the thermostat to the radiator was blown open and the thermostat was blown out the big rubber seal that goes on the opposite end of that thermostat housing was blown out and we had it towed to my friends garage and we tried to start it there and it wouldnt so we tore the head off and it was seized up........the head gasket blew also and it only had about 200 miles on it. and it was running til i cut it off it didnt die on me.

See if you can't bust the bottom end free by using a breaker bar on the crank pulley. You have nothing to loose. If it spins, have your head shaved, get a new head gasket, and be on your way.
If it doesn't you need to decide if you want to build your motor or get another one. If you have another car, a mild build may not be too much more costly than buying someone's 1.8 since Belfab introduced more reasoably priced rods and pistons. I haven't seen a reasonably priced 1.8 long or short block in a while. (not since olderguy had that engine and tranny he sold at a good price) |
+1 dude see if the block is warped if it isn't you can bore it out abit and then rebuild from there provided no crank damage. It is sad to see this happen. GL man.
what is a reasonable price for another motor? with decent to low mileage
my escort 1.8L with 42K miles was $400. Just for a ball park number.
will that motor directly bolt up to everything? and allow me to use same wiring harness and computer and so forth?
some parts won't be the same ... like the oil pan.
but overall its worth the price to do it?
what im wantin to know is....should i buy another 1.8 or 1.6? whats the benefit/advantage of the 2 |
1.6 is the best to buy period but you might have some issues gettting all the electronics to work correctly just stay 1.8 as no one has done a reverse engineered 1.8-1.6 swap yet. Any miata 1.8 will work esp the NA's, if you get an NB or 99 get the Intake manifold as well. other than that it is all the same. from 96 on the crank position sensor was added to help the cam angle sensor keep time. :D GL man.

I've seen a 1.6-swapped NB, but he had built the 1.6 when it was in his NA, punched it out some and built it for 20 psi, ran it on a Haltech, then bought an NB and put the built 1.6 in that.
