My BIG Project.
Dunno why I haven't posted this link to my project here yet, I thought I already did :bang: MX-5 Ireland :: View topic - The BIG Project.
The last page has been updated with "The Secret Art Of Rattle Canning". |
altezzas, body kit, clear corners, gaudy fiberglass attachments? I'm ashamed to call myself Irish today :(
|
Bumper isn't bad, the shitty SportFag wheels need to go...as do the clear front turnsignals (which should have proper bad-ass looking TSi's). The intercooler looks kinda small too.....
So where are all of the pics of the turbo project? |
Anxious to see how the molding process goes. I think I may have scared myself out of doing it..
|
I think the turn signals are a matter of taste. I like the clears. Tail lights and side skirts are not my flavor. Sportmax are played out here but judging from that thread seem not to be across the pond. I really like the nose though. Looks like a fun project.

Yeah, you're right. That was a bit superfluous.
|
I like the front bumper, side skirts are ok, do not like the wheels and the altezas have to go. More on your turbo setup.

SportMax are all the buzz over here at the moment, not much of a selection when it comes to wheels as most are to expensive to get shipped from the USA or elsewhere. |

Well it's been a while since I gave any update.
I had to totally redo the bonet vent as I didn't factor in the IC size - it was out by just 1". A really messy job taking out the previous vent and filler etc. So it's done now, redesigned and I think I like it even MORE this way. The left side of the vent slipped down a few millimeters when bonding to the bonet, it's all flush now though. Attachment 207050 Attachment 207051 Attachment 207052 Attachment 207053 Attachment 207054 Attachment 207055 Attachment 207056 Attachment 207057 Attachment 207058 (It's just a first coat of primer on it that is still wet right now) Attachment 207059 Attachment 207060 Attachment 207061 Attachment 207062 So, what do you think so far ? BTW the clear front indicators and rear break lights will be smoked. (Original link: MX-5 Ireland • View topic - The BIG Project.) |

This was a bit of a pain to fit....
Attachment 207000 Attachment 207001 Attachment 207002 Attachment 207003 Attachment 207004 Attachment 207005 At the moment there are only 2 bolts holding it in place, the sides are not bolted up either. I had to shave parts of the bumper on both sides in order for it to fit flush with the wings. I also had to take off the white plastic 'impact' thing and shave inside it so it fitted on the car 1" further back. The wheel arches must go on and I'm going to do a 'job' on where they meet the bumpers. |

Oh hell, I haven't updated my thread in a long time
So, 1.6 brakes replaced with 1.8 brakes which I reconned/sprayed/fitted. I power washed them and took off most of the old paint first, then fitted new seals etc. Attachment 204037 Attachment 204038 Attachment 204039 Attachment 204040 Attachment 204041 Attachment 204042 Attachment 204043 Attachment 204044 Attachment 204045 Attachment 204046 Attachment 204047 Attachment 204048 Attachment 204049 Attachment 204050 The bonet/vent fitted to the car just to see what it looks like. Attachment 204051 Attachment 204052 Attachment 204053 Problems with the wheel arches due to the side skirts - the standard fitting placed them to high above the wheels going by where the notches on the arches were, so I had to shape & drop the arches to fit lower and with the side skirts. I also had to shave/shape the IL MotorSports front bumper and side skirts due to wheel clearance issues. Attachment 204054 Attachment 204055 Attachment 204056 Rear bumper line and 'bicycle reflectors' filled with a plastic resin filler. Attachment 204057 Attachment 204058 Attachment 204059 Attachment 204060 Body lines on the doors filled in. Attachment 204061 Attachment 204062 Attachment 204063 New Gaz coilover suspension going in. Attachment 204064 Attachment 204065Attachment 204066 Attachment 204067 Sitting good now. Attachment 204068 Attachment 204069 Wheel arches going on (I had to cut 2" off the front arches for wheel clearance). Took me days to shape the arches for them to fit with the side skirts as they were not designed to be fitted to a car with side skirts. Attachment 204070 Attachment 204071 Attachment 204072 Fully flared/wide bodied now ! Attachment 204073 Attachment 204074 Attachment 204075 Attachment 204076 Attachment 204077 Attachment 204078 Making cut lines to blend in the bumpers and also blending in the wheel arches and side skirts. Attachment 204079 Attachment 204080 Attachment 204081 Attachment 204082 Attachment 204083 Attachment 204084 Attachment 204085 I have just 1 front wheel arch to blend in and then it's going to be painted (by myself - 1st time painting a car BTW). After that all the REAL goodies are going into the engine and the Torsen type 2 LSD diff. Also, I had a fabber that was going to make me up a new down pipe for the Greddy Turbo that's in there but he's now said he's way to busy at the mo to do it, can anyone recommend a GOOD downpipe for the standard Greddy Turbo kit - Beigi or OBX etc ? |
Are you doing body work in your living room? That's pretty fucking hardcore.

Mods, please delete this thread.
|
Oh well, since this thread is still up here's a little teaser...
|
Ditch the tail lights, mousetrap, and get some wider wheels.. That'd be one sick looking car.
