Default Thermosensor functionality?

What does the 1 wire thermosensor at the front of the engine report to? Just the dash gauge, right?

If I weren't leaving tomorrow morning, I'd offer to drop off my old (but still working) one that I replaced during my cooling system troubleshooting over the summer. But they're cheap if you don't go OEM, and actually, you can get them from Autozone if I recall. I paid $50 for an OEM one, but I recall them being ~$20 aftermarket.

Thanks, mighty cool of ya, but I actually ordered one today--just didn't feel like fighting traffic to pick it up. $14.

Dude, if you ever need any parts, let me order them for you before you pick them up. I have wholesale accounts at several parts stores including 3 Mazda dealerships (Jim Ellis, Rick Case, and that new one by Mall of GA).

Sweet deal. Will definitely let you know when I finally decide to replace my leaky steering rack and busted tie rod ends.

I'm sure you could drive it without problem without the fans till you get the new one. Just don't drive hard.
And you can jumper them on in the diag box.

Just short the wire to ground and leave them on until you get the sensor.

I think you can remove the AC solenoid and turn the switch to on. The fans will run but the AC won't.

I see people like that parallel fan mod mod. I would strongly suggest doing it relay based. Anyway, it's not that big of a deal for me to leave the miata parked until I get the sensor; it's not my only vehicle, just the most fun.

So where is the sender for the gauge then?

Back of the engine there are two. The big green one for the ECU, the small black one for the gauge.

Now, Where the hell is it? And do you have to remove it or can i just unplug it?

Good alternative to removing the A/C (to using it as a switch anyway) for the winter when this is my main vehicle during the summer/spring/fall, LOL

Just pull the one wire off the top of the AC compressor clutch and tape it so it doesn't short out, then use the AC button and turn the fan to at least the first "on" or "low" position.
