mods are on my vbgarage. its at 13psi of boost on 91 octane. i just stopped at 75ish because it was as fast as i wanted to take it. its the first video i ever made of it, just thought i'd show how the ebay kit is working. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gORHuvfLloM

magnamx-5 03-03-2007 10:49 PM

oh yeah i did. it was nursed out of the whole. i didnt really floor it until i was started in 1st. i wanted to check to see if it was clear before spinning the tires and such. according to gtech i've pulled 5.4secs on less mods.

getsidewaysd1 03-03-2007 11:58 PM

A very nice.

Atlanta93LE 03-04-2007 12:03 AM

Makes me want to get this project going a bit faster!

mxv 03-04-2007 06:11 PM

what turbo does the ebay kit use?

magnamx-5 03-04-2007 06:20 PM

a 16g knock off

hustler 03-04-2007 06:32 PM

ooooh, I want one.

dc2696 03-04-2007 06:50 PM

nicccccccce.

juhanis 03-04-2007 08:52 PM

well, something died today... my diff decided to blow apart. haha. 1.8 diff time. i noticed after i shot that video there was this wierd kind of tapping sound that got worse as i increased my speed. it would come and go, then today, boom, diff metal salad.

mxv 03-04-2007 09:22 PM

oooo ouch... sorry to hear :werd:

adbradley 03-04-2007 09:41 PM

at least you got the nice video... and more proof... 13psi+stock rear end=metal salad :)

UofACATS 03-04-2007 10:06 PM

Vid looks good to me. Sucks on the diff turning itself to salad, but at least you'll be able to launch it. Also, it did have 172K on it, so not bad eh.

Oh, do a before and after with the new diff. Sweet.

juhanis 03-04-2007 10:53 PM

yeah, i'm not really complaining. i know if the car was making stock power that thing would probably never break. it went out in good fashion... getting sideways in 2nd. hopefully i can get my 1.8 carrier, rx7 lsd, frankendiff done tomorrow. since the miata is my only car. i'll try to snap some pics if i get a chance to. and i'll get some pics of my diff metal salad with gear oil dressing. we'll see what happens, at least my clutch and transmission are holding.

miatamania 03-04-2007 10:57 PM

Dude...thats pretty sweet...I really want to get my car on the road now.

At what point did you get traction in that video? lol

juhanis 03-05-2007 01:41 AM

hehehe 3rd :)

well my prototype mr mazda frankendiff is ready for testing. we shall see how it works. i just picked up all of my shafts and such today. now the only 2 things that are left in my drivetrain that are stock are the pressure plate, and the flywheel.

akaryrye 03-06-2007 01:11 AM

wow that sounded really sweet in the video. Ill be doing my 1.8 frankendiff next week sometime hopefully, ill bet it makes a major improvement in traction with that sort of power.

PaKMaN 03-06-2007 01:11 AM

Sounds badass is this the same setup you ran those 440cc's + RX7 AFM?

juhanis 03-06-2007 01:19 AM

yep, rx7 afm and 440s. stock fuel pump for now. i'm probably going to go with a walbro sometime very soon. so i can run higher fuel pressure, boy, my car is increasingly becoming more and more rx7.

lol your running the non turbo AFM right?

yeah, just the normal fc flapper afm. i bought it from a junkyard for like 25bucks.

Fireindc 03-06-2007 01:37 PM

Damn, post your whole setup please

You have a wideband to tune A/Fs with?

Really badass!

Edit: Doh, vbgarage for mods, its still badass though.

Savington 03-06-2007 03:16 PM

Jesus fucking christ, man. That car is FAST. Gimme a ride. :D

wantabemiata 03-06-2007 07:24 PM

Wow, that makes me want a turbo even more.

VRTSid 03-06-2007 11:04 PM

makes me feel like a bigger fucking failure! I really need to figure out my problems.

haha

souds bad ass. btw I killed my stock 1.6 diff on stock power, so Im a little surprised not everyone running a 1.6 diff hasnt blown it yet.

looks like you shifted into 2nd twice?

juhanis 03-07-2007 04:04 AM

zoom2zoom: i only went into 2nd once. i babied first gear, then floored it.

fireindc: the afr's are around 11.2:1 at wot and full boost. idle moves around, but it idles fine.

my frankendiff works great, i still rip all of 2nd though. instead of peeling out in a straight line it now goes all over the place. the frankendiff has the 1.8 miata housing, miata pinion bearing, 1st gen rx7 lsd, 1st gen rx7 3.90:1 ring and pinion, and miata stub shafts with the stock miata clips. this one should hold for awhile.

miatamania 03-07-2007 09:12 AM

heh, are you not totally raping your stock clutch by now?

edit: Nevermind, went back and read in vb garage...your using a 6 puck w/ stock pressure plate...how is that working out?

juhanis 03-07-2007 12:28 PM

stock pressure plate with the six puck works well. its holding daily driving at 13psi. my stock clutch died after 5 days of boost. and it had tons of meat left on it. now that i've replaced all these drivetrain components, i wonder what will break next.

ak47bravo 03-07-2007 06:49 PM

lol that looked pretty redic fast. Looked like ur speedo literally jumped like 10-15 mph lol

Ummm... 230hp and you have never seen your speedo jump under wheelspin?

Savington 03-07-2007 11:26 PM

I've made my speedo jump from 0 to 25+mph before. 5500rpm clutchdrop.

You think I was looking at the speedo while I was doing that, though? ;)

zoom2zoom 03-08-2007 04:44 AM

you guys need wider tires, lol. I run 225's on the rear and they stick pretty good.

ak47bravo 03-08-2007 08:03 AM

Lol, I'm usually looking at the road. I'm running 205's right now. I want to get some drag radials for my other rims. My current tires are getting pretty low. I really want to get those 6UL rims, and throw on maybe some 245's :eek5:

juhanis 03-09-2007 01:13 PM

my 225's are getting balder by the day i still spin into 3rd even with longer gears. it did it with the stock 4.30 and now with the 3.90 lsd. oh well, maybe i should get some corvette 295's on there :rly:

zoom2zoom 03-09-2007 01:22 PM

245/45 15's will be going under mine once I wear out my 225's.

Miata-Gokart 03-27-2007 02:28 AM

damn. I am in the process of piecing together a DYI turbo kit for my 1.6 and i am still running the stock rearend and clutch.... fook. I hope I don't blow my rearend or clutch the next day lol.

miatamania 03-27-2007 03:32 PM

just don't turn up the boost. resist.

neogenesis2004 03-27-2007 04:08 PM

is there a way to identify a 1.6 from a 1.8 diff visually from the outside? I wonder if one of the previous owners of my car may have ever put a 1.8 diff on the car. I was never exactly delicate on my car before the ring went bad and I didnt have a diff failure.

Does anyone make that size? Tire Rack doesn't show anything. 225/50-15 is the next logical progression.

FHS 03-27-2007 08:13 PM

Heh, I picked up a Torsen a week after putting the turbo on my car. I started piecing together the rest of the rearend anticipating that I'd just blow out my stock at some point. Here it is almost three years later and I'm still running on my stock diff.

Anybody know a good source for reletively cheap half-shafts for the 1.8 Torsen?

miatamania 03-27-2007 08:15 PM

just post a WTB for 94+ halfshafts... on .net shouldn't be much at all.

smallblockman69 03-27-2007 11:15 PM

:bigtu:

juhanis 03-28-2007 12:53 PM

i've been working on ways to get my 100+ mph performance improved lately. but other than that, the car is humming along still.
