Im moving from the stock ecu to MS and am removing the air bag system and other components. I have already removed all sensors but am unsure what is the control module, diagnostic module, and it says there is a backup battery source. I have a few pics with the dash removed so you can see.

My question is can I remove all these components and which ones are they? Also is there anything else that I can cut from the system to neaten things up?

That pretty blue box is the air bag control box. I haven't the foggiest clue what it actually does, I just know it's part of the SRS system and can be removed.

Yep, you can chase down the whole airbag system...taking out the black box, the whole harness, and sensors. That harness is easy to chase because it uses connectors unlike anything else on the car, a funky blue and orange pair.

After that start pulling out the climate control if you're not using it. I just pulled A/C stuff and left blower, controls, and heater core...but if you can live without it there's a lot of weight there.

You've already got the lightest dash...so not a lot to lose there. Besides that the only thing in the dash is the radio.

I simplified my wiring harness by removing the airbag system and all elctricals i dont have such as spekers in the headrest power windows becuase i dont have them. antenna, defroster, ac, heat, blower, all wiring traced back to the loom. remove both those blue modules. Its really simple looks confusing but and easy pull out.
This is all that came with the airbags

Just make your own harness, fuse and relay boxes. Only run the wiring you need. Sure it'll take awhile, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Thanks for the pics DropTop got any other pics that would be helpful for the disassembly? So it looks like basically everything in the blue wrapping is for the airbag system right?

The only thing is at the steering wheel there are several connectors that seem to run in the same looping as the air bag. Are all of these unnecessary? I would still like to use the horn after and it seems to be run in with the air bag stuff. Here are some more pics.

Yes the horn runs in with the airbag wiring, but only right at the steering wheel. You can pull the one wire out for the horn and trace it back until it splits off from the airbag stuff. It was green/red in my 94.. I want to say it was the same color in the 1.6 but I can't be certain.

In fact, depending on how experienced you are with car electrical systems and wiring, it may be easier and quicker to rewire from the start. Says someone who has spent 2 weeks stripping the unnecessary wiring from a RX-7 FD.

I can completely see it being easier to start from scratch. Only thing is knowing exactly what you have, even the things you need that you didn't know you needed. I guess just sit with a diagram and figure it all out. I would MUCH rather do it that way than strip down an old harness.

This was my final delete of everything from the car excluding the antenna (just forgot to picture it.) The green and brown wire with a small connector i believe is the one for the horn, I dont have my horn anymore so i just cary an airhorn for when someone pisses me off in traffic strapped next to the fire destinguisher haha. Any other questions just ask. I;m not mean I'll answer them its a forum for enthusiast not ********. I wish i would of taken more pictures but I was ready to get the dash back in for my new steering wheel and seats. BTW I put my radio in the glove box to so i can set all of the electronics such as boost and wideband, turbo timer etc. in the center for convienvce
