NA Eating O2 Sensors?

So, I've got a mostly stock engine 92 (MSPNP and COPs) that seems to be killing o2 sensors.

I replaced the o2 sensor with a universal one nearly 4 years ago, then last year it seemed to be going bad again, so I swapped in a new universal (cheaping out with plans to get a WBO2).

Now, I just replaced it again about a month ago and it seems to be completely FUBAR already. The exhaust reeks of gasoline and the car runs with a staccato stuttering.

I've noticed that it seems to be a day or two after I run the car fairly hard that the o2 has crapped out the last two times. Possibly coincidental (it's not like I baby it most days) but I figure worth noting.

SO... Is there a setting on the MSPNP I need to look out for in order to help keep these universal narrowband o2s alive? Or is something else behind their failure?

I'm mainly worried that if I put a WBO2 in there, the car will find a way to break that one to.

as far as im aware of running excessively rich ruins o2 sensors.. I had this problem when I had my old turbo setup running on an afpr except I was ruining innovate lc1 sensors which turned out to be expensive :\ if you say your exhaust reeks of petrol are you running extremely rich? what are your afr's set at?

Current AFR Table:

I actually just changed this whole table yesterday to make the car run more rich... Sounds like that's not a good move at this point. The damage seems to already be done to the o2 sensor though.

Should I buy another cheap o2 and change the AFR map to something with all 14.something AFRs?

I wouldn't have described my 'tune' (as much as it can go w/ a narrowband) as particularly rich, but would hitting anything around an AFR of 12 cause failure?

Injector stuck open?

How would I check that?

....buy a wideband.

(cheaping out with plans to get a WBO2).
found your problem

Pull spark plugs

Can't afford it currently.
Besides, until I know that a WBO2 won't fail on me after a month, I'm not going to risk the loss.

Fooger, I'll do that. I'm assuming that I should be looking/smelling for gas in one of the cylinders?

Where is sensor located? Is it at an appropriate angle?

Then put your stock ECU back in. I don't understand why people think that a WBO2 is an optional thing when you put a standalone ECU in a car.

You don't quite understand the problem you have. The issue you have is that the car runs so rich all the time that you're killing O2 sensors. If you never get a WBO2, you will never have the ability to tune your car adequately, which means you will never stop killing O2 sensors.

The AFR table in Tunerstudio does not do anything, because you don't have a WBO2 sensor for it to take readings from.

In this order:
1. Buy a wideband (or reinstall the stock ECU until you can afford one)
2. Tune your car
3. ???
4. Profit

what savington said. if you can't afford 150-200 to get your car to work right you should sell it and buy a bus pass

Fair enough. I'll do that. Thanks for the info!

and 18psi, take that ---- to 4chan.

Oh did you get your panties bunched up? Sorry about that, must be your time of the month, I'll go gentle on you next time.

Good one.

So I get a WBO2 is obviously necessary, but I think there might be something up with the wiring for my o2 sensor. I had already bought another o2 earlier in the day, so I figured I might as well take a minute to put it in there after creating a tune w/ an AFR table of all 14.7s.

Installed it and got no reading from the o2 sensor in tunerstudio. The car even runs the same with the inline connector (where the wire goes from brown/white to red/blue) disconnected. Sooo, that can't be right.
Done with it for now, but later in the week I'm gonna try to wire the o2 directly into the wiring harness going into the ecu so see if the old wiring is cut or shorting out somewhere that I can't see.
