NA Miata -- Idle Speed Component Coolant Line Delete

2 Attachment(s)
I've recently had issues with coolant getting into cylinder #4 and am planning a reroute to even out cylinder temperatures. As part of the reroute, I'm considering deleting all those little lines that crawl around the intake providing coolant to idle speed components (on my 1.6, that would be the Air Valve and Idle Speed Control Valve -- see pic). I'd like to get rid of these because:

1. They're ugly and get in the way.
2. They're a failure point. On my 200K mile car, I've had these weep about as often as I've had to deal with the cursed water plug.

I know many of you have deleted these. Those that have, any issues with cold weather drivability? It was 15 degrees here this morning and car is a DD.

They're history then!

Brain, what do you have in the middle of your PCV hose?

Braineack 12-12-2012 11:04 AM

a check valve.

I've gotten rid of mine. It starts and runs like shit, but it also leaves a trail of sooty exhaust everywhere, so I blame that on the leaking valves seals.

Do it.

Braineack 12-12-2012 11:53 AM

it runs like shit only because you apparently fail at tuning. FWIW, the air valve is only open below 70°F CLT temps...

curly 12-14-2012 01:13 AM

Yes, because a bad tune causes valve seals to leak...

Actually, I suppose if it ran hot due to a bad tune it'd burn up the seals... so nevermind.
