NA Miata Splitter
Anyone interested in these? I have a template for the NA version to go with the oem front spoiler. They will NOT be a direct knockoff of TDR's splitter. I appreciate member inputs for aero improvements. I will get prices hopefully by Monday.

aren't they cheap enough already? lol i got the one for my RB type 2 front bumper for 99$ shipped to my door.

Depends on pricing.

Are you trying to piss people off??

http://www.trackdogracing.com/websit...7-splitter.jpg I can also reshape them to make it more aggressive. But there will be only 1 design. |
I hope all the people laughing at the cr.net people getting angry over the GV lip being copied come over here and shit their pants over this instead.

I am simply passing on my savings since I have access to replicating these and also changing the design based on any inputs. For example I can extend the back to make it more aerodynamically effective (think underbelly pan). But if people here will frown on this, then by all means please delete this thread, and I will only make one custom version for myself for you to drool over. |
Don't knock it off directly. Just change the front so it's even and not recessed then make it deeper for better flow. Big mushroom shape. If you want to unwind peoples panties go back and edit your first post so it doesn't sound like are just going to copy TDR exactly. By the time you do a mushroom shape the material and shipping costs will jump considerably though.

I'd like it more like this:

This is more my point, your free to do what ever you want, and people are free to buy it, but why just copy it. Then to Boldly state you copied it, and not to expect a little negative feed back. If you improve or even modify it, and then if you can sell it at a more economical price no one will balk. But just copying someones work and undercutting them is a bit weak.

id take one in carbonfiber lmk how much and what it looks like id also like the same kind braineack wants
|
And then there are legalities like copyright laws and such....not sure if that applies or not?
|
Id be interested depending on price, what material are you planning on using?
|
I'll follow your work with intrest and Id be interested if it'll look nice.

for fuck's sake, it's a piece of ABS plastic.... He might be able to do a little better on price, but after shipping I doubt it. The TDR splitter gets sent sorta rolled up. |
It will end up similar to braineack's picture. I may extend the back to make it more aero, but that will up the costs (in materials, shipping, ect).
Preliminary material is 1/4" ABS. There will be no CF at the moment. More info on Monday when I bring a template into the shop. |
Ok they just called me with a price quote. I would be able to sell these for 85 shipped, including nylon hardware for the installation. They are similar to the TDR splitter but without the indentation in the middle. In order to get it for 85 shipped, I only need 4 people to commit.
Anyone interested? |
got a drawing of what you're thinking?
|
It is basically the TDR splitter without the indentation in the middle. It will go smooth straight across the front. This effectively gives the splitter more surface area.

is it going to just be a splitter like the TDR unit, or will it go straight across the rear edge, providing more of a undertray as well?
|
If it works as a bumper-to-rad undertray as well I'd be all over it.
|
Pictures now available in the GB thread.

Same here, my undertray is a little jacked, so it would be great to have a splitter that would work as both. I'd buy one as well.
i agree so do a few other ppl time to redesign for the masses |
I want one also..
does it come with the mounting hardware?

Really bandit?

thread hijack.
It blows my mind that there's a market for 'manufactured' sheet stock splitters. It seems that if your car is 'engineered' to the point where you're splitting hairs on a splitter :loser:, than your ingenuity and fabrication skills should far exceed the ability to measure and use an Ofla knife. I'm doubtful TDR or any other miata vendor produces in enough volume to get price breaks on materials - especially on plastics. This is one of the product instances where there's really no monetary advantage to buying it pre-made (a cast turbo manifold being on the opposite end of the spectrum due to the costs of development and manufacturing). Just buy a piece of ABS or PVC plastic from a local supplier/sign shop for <$30, spend an hour with some cardboard and cut out whatever damn shape you want. Depending on the how thick the material is you can get the job done with a utility knife, some vigorous scribing and a gentle *snap*. OR ... if your picky you can make a template from scrap plywood or MDF and router it out. OR ... if your picky and have some resources (and have access to AI, SoldWrks, Pro, Rhino, etc.) then you can make a dwg file and have it water jetted or routered by a local shop. With this method your getting pretty close to the cost of the TDR piece but at least you get the shape, fit and material choice you want. -Zach |
