NA8 manual transmission fluid change: taking 2+ quarts?
 

NA8 5-speed, ~205k miles on stock transmission.

At this point I’ve pumped a bit over 2 quarts into the thing but seems like most guides say you should only get less than 2 before stuff starts coming out the fill hole?

I haven’t yet measured how much came out, but it smelled like chocolate milk and didn’t look great. Also, recently getting into third hasn’t been easy.

How screwed am I here? Is it possible I incinerated a bunch of it and now it’s looking almost like a dry-fill?

Make sure your vehicle is level. Mine usually takes 2qts. The spec is 2.1qts. The first thing I check if I'm having shifting issues is the clutch hydraulics. If there is no air in the system, you might be in for a rebuild.

Fuck I filled the one with the wires coming out. Did a sanity check and there's fresh juice coming out the drain hole. What the fuck did I do and how badly did I break things...?

Okay so quick Google says it's not totally tragic to fill through the reverse sensor. Still I put too much juice in there and kinda have no way of knowing how much extra there is....

That is just the reverse switch. I don't think you hurt anything. The square drive, pipe thread plug behind the bellhousing is the fill. Don't worry these days the tard hall of fame has so many applicants they are not excepting anymore.

Put your reverse switch back in, pull the fill plug till it drains to a small stream.

All you’ll do is loose a bit of power and puke fluid out the vent. Nothing permanent.
