NB AC compressor question for someone smarter than me
Currently doing a engine swap in my NB, dropped the subframe out of the engine yesterday. I decided to leave the AC Compressor in the engine bay so that I didnt have to purge the system. One issue however, I managed to rip a wire out of the compressor in the process. There is a single wire that runs to the compressor, attaches to what looks like a thermal sensor of some type and then runs to the clutch assembly. On the JDM motor I got months ago for my dads NA it also came with a Compressor but its different than mine. Its smaller and also doesnt have the same thermal switch at all. I was just going to bypass this thermal switch and run the signal wire directly to the Compressor, I dont see what the point of this thermal sensor is, but maybe someone smarter than me can shed some light on it for me? I believe it is indeed a thermal switch. I believe it contains a bimetallic strip that turns the thing off if it gets too hot. Sometimes the switch goes bad and won't let the compressor run, and folks jumper the connector so that the switch is bypassed.
